On Dec 28th China released the entire genome sequencing of the virus to the global scientific community. That is not a cover-up. This apparently is what led to a test being developed so quickly (except in the States because they didn't trust the Chinese and so developed their own test and got it wrong). It's also a large part of why there are clinical trials already 4 mths after the first cases.
I struggle to marry that up with their communications with the WHO two weeks later who then spent a hell of a lot of time misinforming the world that the real issue was stigma and that closing borders was not the answer. The USA is 100% correct in not trusting anything out of this authoritarian regime and its extremely concerning other nations and organisations do take them at their word.
To add insult to injury China's test kits sold to Spain have proven to be only 30% effective, the only thing worse than no tests is faulty test kits.

Yikes. You guys who’ve been tested weren’t joking.
And it felt like every millimetre of that picture. Horrible.

It's going to be fascinating reading after we get through this to work out why different countries have had such amazingly different responses and outcomes. I'll be slightly disappointed if it's as simple as "we implemented social distancing early enough, but at least we'll know what to do next time.
Certainly looks like some hubris not preparing based on Asia's recent experiences.

So this is interesting
https://pandemic.internationalsos.com/2019-ncov/covid-19-data-visualisationApart from Hubei which is still pretty much locked down it looks like other regions of China are starting to see cases increasing again following relaxation of restrictions. Although I guess it could be what the Chinese govt line is travellers.
There's actually quite a few good graphs. In terms of cases every country shows the same sharply accelerating trendline except for China and South Korea who have the hoped for bell curve. And the US where the climb is steeper
Deaths is similar much the same curve except for Italy, Spain and (it looks like) the USA.
I dont believe anything coming out of China.

My daughter's a first year doctor in Winchester. Cases building. Testing about to start for those with symptoms. No proper eye coverage. Doctors wearing welding masks and ski goggles!! Hope it gets better soon.
Older D is a House Surgeon in Cambridgeshire. Only a few cases so far. Other's a nurse in Slough. Enough kit - once they found out where it had been delivered.... Sense the NHS logistics haven't been all that great.

Jesus H Christ.
Oh sure, come within 2 fucking metres of someone and you can catch the Rona, but there's no way to know if you have it unless we penetrate 2 fucking metres inside you.

No wonder the staff need full face shields, how could you not sneeze like crazy after that?

Italy is a catalogue of how NOT to do it.

Probably a seat-belt law against riding in the boot - even voluntarily.

I read into it that they got stopped for a minor infringement but used the wrong pronouns.
