    365 Days on Netflix.

Hard to describe because it's so batshit crazy. Suspect it may get a bit of a cult following. Basically lead man kidnaps lead woman and decides he'll give her 365 days to fall in love with him.

5/5 for the frequent sex and nudity, the billionaire toys (5 min sex montage on a super yacht), the shopping, and locations.

1/5 for the plot because nothing made sense, very little gets explained, and you kind of jump from scene to scene thinking wait, what? Why? (There is mafia and gangsters and family v family battles, jealous ex girlfriends etc etc.) The final scene is clearly a setup for upcoming movies because it stops rather than ends, and in a bizarre way.

    I should have known better.

I gave my afternoon to The Last Days Of American Crime on Netflix.

It’s a steaming pile of horse shit. Nothing worth watching. Even the tits aren’t worth it.

    Avoid, avoid, avoid.

    The review on rogerebert.com

Poorly written, ineptly directed, and possibly the longest movie ever made in terms of how it feels, the only thing notable about “The Last Days of American Crime” is that it made it this far in the filmmaking process. Someone should investigate how that’s possible.

Fuck, I'm just about to watch this. Maybe I won't unless it's so bad it's good ? ( like Showgirls or something of that ilk ? )

In much better news the ex wife has given me the go ahead to watch the Alien/Prometheus series with my boys. To steal a quote from another franchise I quite like, "This will be a day long remembered"

Any idea what order to do them in ?

I'm thinking chronologically ie Prometheus/Alien Covenant/Alien/Aliens/Alien 3/Alien Resurrection......then part of me thinks do I go with the order they were made and start with a couple of Bangers ? unlike others on here I like Prometheus/Covenant so I'd love to start with them but the plotline might be a bit confusing for them ( as it is their Dad ) Do I go for Alien/Aliens first up and look at the others as flashbacks ?

    Open for suggestions......

@MN5 Alien/Aliens. THen it doesn't matter, but you'll lose the raw impact of Alien by watching anything else first

I would agree with this. Not because I've seen all the latter ones and know what I'm talking about, more that it is likely the SFX on the first will look a little lacklustre if it follows the later ones?

Good point. I think everyone knows which scene you mean.

Hmmmm, not so sure, they still hold up pretty bloody well from memory. Alien 3 had some pretty shit SFX though ( and no coincidentally is easily the worst of the franchise for me )

Bishop? That scene is my most memorable.

Have to start with Alien, then Aliens. The rest the timeline doesn't matter. Alien3 is actually not that bad either, and I really enjoy Alien4 which is supposed to be the worst one.

The prequels and Predator ones are just dumb.

I half agree with the last statement. I loved the prequels. Less said about the Predator crossovers the better though.

@MN5 There is a good movie trying to get out of the prequels, but the story and characters are so mind numbingly stupid.

    SPOILER (kinda)
I lost my brain at one point, where they found a cute little alien on a strange planet AND THEN JUST REACHED OUT TO PET IT. FFS people, I'm trying to suspend disbelief here.

Not a fan of much after the first two (which were totally different, but totally superb).

I have a box set which has the theatrical and alternate versions of the first 4 films. Nothing comes close to the first 2 movies but I didn't dislike 3 and Resurrection.

Alien 3 was a mess because of the battle between Fincher and the studio and the long list of writers including our own Vincent Ward who all had their own vision for the screenplay.

I couldn't remember Covenant - and wondered if it came out in the last year... (I've missed so much shit having been travelling for 12 months - I have no idea what I have and haven't seen - especially TV serieseseses/seasons)... and fell down a rabbit-hole.
I noticed there was a movie named Alien Convergence - but armed with a little suspicion, checked the other movies made by the same producer. Such classics/gems as Atlantic Rim, 3-Headed Shark Attack, 5-Headed Shark Attack, Ice Sharks, and the such.
If I didn't have a years worth of TV and movies to catch up on - some of them look worth a laugh/watch.

Alien and Aliens work so well purely cos the character development is done so well within a pretty short period of time, particularly the former. You get a sense of the pecking order within the ship straight away. In Aliens I like how Hudson goes from a serial moaner to a man of action as well. It obviously deteriorates in the later movies but it's still ok.

Covenant had some very cool scenes, was better than Prometheus but some bits still irked me ( fuck all additional details about the engineers and Shaw dying off screen mainly )

I can tolerate a few dumb characters in Movies, the Alien series is hardly the first to do this.

Given the dramas with Alien 3 it’s amazing it’s as watchable as it was. Several rewrites (kiwi Vincent Ward is credited with story) and a few directors as well
David Fincher who ended up with it had written it off from his cv.
The original idea was supposed to be set on a man made planet inhabited by Monks.. the idea was then taken and watered down to the prison planet with religious inmates

    Bridesmaids

Bit of a comedy classic this one, some terrific lines and characters. And a bit of toilet humour to boot Probably one a 4 star movie, but gets an extra half purely due to the line (words and delivery of)

'I've seen better tennis in a tampon commercial"

4.5 sink shits out of 5 broken taillights

    Zero Dark Thirty.

Disgusted at myself that it took me this long to watch it. Superb. Well crafted, engrossing story and pretty well real (as far as Hollywood goes). Well worth a watch. Confronting, but in a good way I think.

Though Prometheus was terrific with the David & Noomi Rapace characters in particular excellent. It set up a good premise for a sequel to expand on things.

Except we got the pile of poo that was Alien:Covenant.

I had to double take as I didn't think that would ever be a serious question...
