"O.J. : Made in America" five-part documentary is an absolute must watch even if its more crime than sport related (this is not the Cuba Gooding Jr drama series).

@nzzp Free Solo is probably the best thing I've seen all year.

I agree. Amazing film. My wife and I are not rock climbers, and had crazy sweaty palms at the end. It. Was. Nuts.

If you enjoyed that, get into the Reel Rock series. Lots of the same people from those documentaries (Honnold, Caldwell, Chin, etc) just running around climbing lunatic things.

Really interesting to hear the 'pro climber' thing too. Basically Honnold did it for a few years for petrol money and gear, living in a van. Like, he lived in a van because he had no money, not just because of the fit with a climbing lifestyle.

@nzzp Was amusing when they did the brain scan and found Alex is not really wired like other people.

    I wasn't bloody surprised!!! 🙂

Ken Griffey Jr was supposed to have a crack at the record as well, but he got hurt, and so forgotten about. He still hit 56 that year, with 146 RBIs. What a player.

Was interesting hearing McGwire say he, like anyone, wished he was an all-round player like Griffey, but had to accept he was just a fly ball home run hitter.

no kidding. Interestingly, the more you watch, the more you find out he's not technically that great a climber (in terms of climing insanely difficult routes). What makes him special is his ability to free solo or speed climb. He takes on insane projects and does them.

For incredible climbers, check out Adam Ondra, Chris Sharma, and some young ones like Ashima Shiraishi

last night watched "The Long Gone Summer" telling the story of the 1998 Home Run chase between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa.

I had to watch it, because i remember how big this was. I watched a lot of baseball at this time, as Sky Sports basically just switched to ESPN for most of the day, and i was a feckless uni student. This chase was massive. Pretty sure we even had a bet going in our flat as to who would win it.

The documentary itself is good, but not great, i think it could have been made better, but it's a pretty cool reflection on how baseball managed to re-enter people's hearts after the strike did so much damage. It also goes a long way to explaining why the league did nothing about the obvious steroid usage.

70 home runs is fucking amazing. And McGwire especially hit fucking bombs, his bat speed was ridiculous

Yeah he's one ranga I wouldn't want to take a bat to the head from.

Which rangas WOULD you like to take a bat in the head from?

Talks about the John Daly 'Gymlazium' where there is a bar stool on every treadmill, ashtray on one side, cup holder for your vodka on the other, porn on the TV and topless waitresses serving you...talks about 27k bar tabs at titty bars 😆

I watched this on ESPN last week. A great watch about the development and history of the show. Reali's comments about LBJ and his draft class are hilarious.

That was a great doco. The love and mutual respect they have for each other is the star of the show. It was funny that one of them slurped the Darko kool aid. I guess the longer you spend as a pundit the more you will get stuff wrong
