    Couples Retreat

Great cast. Excellent script. Hilarious movie about four couples on a week long relationship retreat.

Four fights out of four couples.

I wouldn't have picked you for this one. I'm a fan of it, I generally like VV (though I hated Swingers).

    Duuuuude. Really?

I really hated it. Just found the characters such dislikeable douchebags. Cringeworthy in a bad way

Gimme Dodgeball or Old School or Wedding Crashers any day

Old school is terrific. Another to add to Ferralls hall of fame to be honest. When he's on he's brilliant.

    Da 5 Bloods

Certainly not without its flaws but I enjoyed it overall. Certainly considerably more than the Black Klansman. The banter between the main characters seemed extremely natural and you did feel for them and what they went through. I enjoyed the poor mans SLJ, Delroy Lindo, and his characters descent too. Subsequent viewings may change my mind but at the moment it’s a solid

Mad Max 2 - Road Warrior

I enjoyed it, sure it's old, but probably assisted by not alot of SXF.

    The Current War

Story of the battle for supremacy in the battle between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) over which of AC/DC would become the standard form of transmission and literally light up America.

It's a very dark movie. Not its mood. The Director has a two hour long metaphor for how monumental and magnificent this new fangled electricity is going to be based on shooting almost every seen in near darkness. Even exterior shots are bleak and overcast.

Yes - it's that sort of movie. The major issue I had was I don't really care about any of the characters. Nikola Tesla has a supporting part but is wasted. Edison comes across as a knob, but the number of damns I give is zero.

Not a bad movie. I did learn why we have bayonet light bulbs (Edison is a knob) and it was nice to go to the cinema but very much a film with a flat battery for me.

@dogmeat I kind of liked it. If you throw science, history and some "interesting" personalities in. Just my thing really. Can understand why it might not be popular though.

It was a shame they didn't have more of Tesla but it was really about the currents.

Science wise we ended up with the correct result as a grid (at the time - I won't start on micro generation versing macro). The yanks f'd it up with voltage but again, at the time. End result has actually been that they were both correct I think. All airliners have both, they just serve different purposes, and DC is safer than AC in some regard. The movie displayed that I think.

4 ACs out of 5DCs on a Back in Black scale (which you didn't seem to like as a film style).

By far the best of Mels trilogy if I remember rightly. Give me dangerous old school stunts over CGI any day of the week.

Saw King of Staten Island tonight. Absolutely loved it. Angry Bill Burr is excellent, definitely my sort of humour. When you work out the main actors name and who the film is dedicated to it certainly gets a bit dusty watching.

I enjoyed this as well. I think what I'd add to this is it's not really a comedy (in the Knocked Up type sense) and is more a comedy drama. Bill Burr was like his stand up, started off all angry and shouty and then as it wore on he softened. The mo was freaking terrible though. Walked the fine line of making the actually pretty unlikeable lead likeable most of the time.

Also watched The Kitchen which is about three women who kind of become gangsters when their gangster husbands go to jail. Wasn't great but was watchable. I was wondering whether it was a true story but it turns out it is based on a graphic novel (or series).

    It Chapter 2

Really enjoyed the 2017 version of one of my favourite books, but this sequel is a stinker. Contrived, formulaic and just plain bad. The CGI was poor and more Tim Burton than scary.

It was so bad the whole thing seemed like a comedy at times.

    Gemini Man

This was on Sky movies tonight so I thought I would take a punt. The good news was that Ang Lee movies will always have plenty of amazing stunts, and I like Will Smith in these roles. The bad news was that David Benioff was one of the writers. Seeing a CGI de-aged Will Smith was a little disconcerting though. It was like an 1980s action movie where the story doesn't matter and you can just enjoy the action. Even Clive Owen didn't ruin the movie for me.

Yeah, agree! I watched them back to back on a plane. Enjoyed the first, hated the second.

    The Mountains Between Us

Idris Elba and Kate Winslet in a plane crash in the mountains and you can probably work out the rest.

Not bad, but not great, and honestly ... not really memorable for any real reasons either.

It was fine, CGI held up until the final scene outside where it looked super weird.

Either the lighting effected it all they ran out of cash.

I watched the whole thing, but the son was bored and bailed.

Agree about that scene but the dialogue didn't always match up with the movement of the lips at other times.

I haven't watched this yet, assumed I would get round to it at some stage, although you've probably put the final nail in the wont watch it box. πŸ™‚

To be fair in the book the first β€˜part’ when they are kids is by far the better then when they are adults.
But yeah they made a mess of it with the movie
