@Stargazer I downloaded the App this morning, went somewhere that had the QR Code, was easy to do.

@antipodean There have been constant warnings from the government (social media; COVID-19 ads on tv, for example) to stay vigilant. Like staying at home if you're sick (especially if you have cold or flu symptoms), get tested, practise good hygiene (including washing your hands, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and cleaning surfaces), keeping track of where you've been (and downloading the tracer app) etc. People just didn't listen.
I'm not surprised people didn't listen, they normally don't.
We were in Level 1, not Level 0.
Shops and bars are open, you can pack into the footy. Level one means nothing to ordinary people. They judge by what their restrictions are and if there doesn't appear to be any, they act accordingly.
Remember it was good practise pre-covid to not go out if you had cold or flu symptoms, to not sneeze like a Chinese mainlander, to practise basic hygiene.

It's really easy to say wear a mask but one thing I'd like to know is where are people getting all these masks they are supposed to wear?
The local chemist beside where I work just told me this morning they haven't had any disposables in stock for weeks, they're on back order. And they're normally priced at $75 for 50, which you'd cut through pretty quickly if you have a family I'd have thought.
The reusable ones are equally difficult to get hold of. Mrs JC ordered a couple last week on the back of the signals from the government. Almost all places she tried online were sold out. The one place she managed to place an order came back pretty soon after accepting the order but saying they'd be delivered the back in stock.

in aus everyone with a sewing machine seems to be making them and selling them, i see a post or two every day on my local community facebook page, no more than $15-20
-
@JC that virologist lady (Siouxie Wiles?) said on TV this morning you can make your own out of an old tee, socks, etc...
My wife bought some on the weekend, was a pack of 20 I think, weren't anywhere near that sort of price.
-
@taniwharugby Duke University seems to disagree with Ms Wiles:
Edit: If you can see though it or blow through it, it's probably worse than nothing apparently.

Yeah, I know chemists can be pretty gougy, but a buck apiece seems to be pretty much the standard online. But they're pretty hard to come by at the moment.

@JC not all my socks have holes in them!
Ooh, look at you with your posh intact socks!
-
bunnings had loads of single use ones in aus too

We got some from here: https://www.masksbykenzy.co.nz/
She's a seamstress who makes them herself. Admittedly it took a week or so. Kids one arrived before we left for holiday but not the adults. But have them all now.

@dogmeat That's something that really fucks me off. Although in fairness, I also used to feel the same about people who came to work hacking and snotting their germs everywhere because they were certain the world would fall apart without them for a day. Stay at home if you're sick, assholes.
-
@JC We actually ordered a couple from NZ early in the Melbourne lockdown
