This is the thing I just cant understand, the church has the right to collect taxes (atleast in Finland) and they have no responsibility. If a political party doesnt support mass immigration or gay rights, they loose funding from the state, why should the church be any different? 
Make them behave like normal human beings or take money off from them, fucking fluffies. 
And then there is this lad in my rugby club, nicest bugger going around, highly religious, can take a joke and is always a joy to talk to. Has absolutely nothing against gays, nor transsexual people and actually takes part in pride-things and whatnot. 
But its the old school conservative people who flip my shit over, like the leader of the Christian democratic party; She actually said in live-TV that she got gay-friends but still wont support gay marriage, what an absolute waste of oxygen. To top it all she is a doctor, an actual medical doctor and still believes on stories and bases her politics on bits and pieces of a 2000-year-old book.

I think going after the church as a whole is probably a bit much, because there are a lot of them who aren't doing bad things (besides their Catholocism ;)) but I saw an article the other day on the bit in bold:

It should be noted that proof of abuse was not required. IIRC the average payout under Towards Healing (the national response) was 48k.
 
You can also compare that to redress schemes offered by state governments for abuse suffered in state care. The cap was 40k in QLD and the max was 60k in TAS. It could very well be that the Melbourne Response was totally inadequate, but I'm not aware of any organisation or company that will invite people to come forward for compensation and offer them a blank check.

Yep. That's what i had seen reported. 
And I'm playing with semantics but as i say i can see how back in the day when he was Fr. George Pell parish priest elsewhere not Cardinal responsible for employees how something so out of whack with your understanding of the world and not within your control wouldn't be his concern. 
That's different to him now not being interested. 
Not for a minute excusing him for any further wrong doings. 
Re the Melbourne response. I have heard some damning criticism of that, hiw it essentially exists to protect the church from further action rather than try to assist the victims.

I agree with that. I suppose in terms of what the public thinks of him, the emotional range is wide.
 
I suppose, even if he threw himself on his knees and begged for mercy, it wouldn't change peoples' minds. It would almost be worse than his current emotional blockade.
 
Ultimately the Church will decide what happens I think - they're in a tricky position.

 I don't see much of a lynch mob metaility coming from the west, in fact the exact opposite is true . Europe has been over the top in trying to accommodate them which they are regretting now and will do for quite some time.
 
Getting back to the catholic church, they had systems in place to avoid publicity and protect the pedophiles in their ranks from prosecution .
