Apparently very good in Marnie, and great movie, The Man who would be King.

Try The Offence and The Hill. Done about the time Bond took off, terrific acting

Are they available on digital platforms? Sorry to be lazy, but just in case!

I don't really know. Watched them on terrestrial TV over the last year. Think The Offence is on Prime

Sean was meant to be Gandalf in LOTR but supposedly turned it down because he didn’t want to spend 18 months in little ole NZ filming then back to back to back.
The right actor got the role anyway

Not that I’m a big LOTR fan but yes, Ian Mclellan did a great job.

I think Connery always lived his life 100% on his own terms which sometimes didn’t endear him to others all that well.

@MN5 Going to go against all the Connery adulation.

Worst type of professional Jock. Happy to accept a gong and then whinge bitterly about everything and how hard done by Scotland was from one of his villas in the Caribbean or Southern Spain. Massive hypocrite, limited actor - ego the size of Canada, chip the size of Russia.

This is how you know you really made it in life, when you get your own thread on the Fern. His family will be proud.

Apparently Connery was quite a legitimately tough dude in real life if this story is anything to go by.....

Sir Thomas Sean Connery is probably the most famous Scottish actor, best known for his role as the secret agent James Bond. Ever since his first

....and before Roger Moore took over and some of the ahem, less realistic elements became fashionable in Bond films there was this scrap which Connery and Grant did without any stunt doubles

    Had a great sequel

Unlike my good wife, I consider every Bond movie before Golden Eye to be dreadful, so Connery doesn't have that in his positive column. And no movie I've watched since was made better by his casting. To me he just seemed to be one of those legends where the myth gets bigger with the passing of time.

WTF is wrong with Goldeneye - it's an actually good Bond film, better than any modern Bond film (all of Brosnan and Craigs), yes including Casino Royale which is the one genuinely awesome Craig bond.

But unlike @antipodean I really like Connery in lots of stuff - Hunt for the Red October (still find the complaints about the accent weird, all the Russian characters speak in their own accents anyway, you can even hear a bit of Sam Neil's kiwi twang), The Rock, The Untouchables, Highlander, The Presido etc.

Absolutely. GoldenEye and Casino Royale (both directed by your homie Martin Campbell) are considered to be top tier Bond movies.

I never liked Brosnan as Bond. Casino Royale is outstanding though

@antipodean My connery rule of thumb - If he's bald he makes an effort. If he has hair he's phoning it in.
