I mean plenty of 'right tards' turned around and voted for change when they are meant to be from conservative areas. I think if Clarke proposed a flag change riht wing people would do the same thing. It is disappointing but it's not just one side of the political spectrum.

The only way to get a fair fight would be for Key to have got everyone on board. I don't know whether he tried or not, or whether it was a vanity project from the start, but make the offer and let them be seen to be the party poopers

Judging by the last election they make up about 10% of the voting population, I've said before plenty of times I think they are incredibly vocal online all out of porportion with their actual numbers. As I mentioned on the previous page I had a tedious 30 minute lecture from a Don/Grouch type today, if he hadn't been a building inspector I would have given him the excoriating explanation of his failings as a human being he deserved for buying into such drivel.

Exactly, he could have done a better job of reaching out to them from the start. If he can make Cullen head on nzpost and in charge of the GCSB inquiry he could have got someone from Labours past to be the face of it and not make himself the focus.

A victory for the narrow-minded, shouty social media soapbox types. So disappointed.

So we are stuck with another country’s flag on our flag, which also looks like the flag of the country we most often get mistaken for.
I think their majority won't grow like previous elections. They will need to cultivate coalition partners and hope the electorate will hate them less than the prospect of comrade Turei having undue power on the treasury benches

Settle down. I was one of the 10 above who voted to keep the flag. It wasn't because I hate the Evil Emperor Key Hitler or wanted the <strike>vexilogo</strike> flag experts involved. I voted that way because I respect the traditions of the current flag and was not happy with the alternatives offered. I would have gladly voted for a (good) silver fern on black ala the Allblacks. I honestly couldn't give a shit if people mistake the flags. Most people probably couldn't even locate NZ on a map.

Fair enough, I was probably getting a bit soap-boxy myself there. Totally on board with voting for the status quo for your reasons above, just seemed like most focused on the wrong issues.

The ratio of people criticising the process to people suggesting an improved process was pretty poor throughout.

I have no interest in becoming a republic.

Would have liked a new flag.

Will go back to my default of not being seen near a NZ flag and see how things pan out.

Don't think the politicians will touch this with a barge poll. It would need to be citizens-driven. Pigs might fly.

Not just social media though. Mainstream media also appeared to be very anti change with either campaigns marked as personal views from their employees or thinly veiled pieces geared to appease what they thought their audience was and portraying non media "celebs" as interfering if they made their views public.
It's a drawback of postal voting that you can influence people with a voting paper in front of them.

    Shame. Disappointed.

Can't see flag change in the future.

I love the NZ Ensign and will remain proud of it. But loved the idea of change and of all the alternatives put up I liked this one most (honestly).

On with life then. We have a flag with tradition we can be proud of.

How come we're getting more votes in this poll? Were people waiting to see the result so they could fit in with the msjority.

I'm pretty sure it was 23-7 for the alternative before results were announced.

26-10 now.
