Pulp Fiction
I'm almost alone these days when I say I'm not a Tarantino fan. Struggled to stay awake in so many of his "masterpieces". But, like everything, there is an exception. Pulp Fiction is one of those movies that gets better every single time you watch it. The lines, the delivery, Samuel L at his astonishing best. Best parts are the story with Travolta / Thurman.
5 Pretty Fucking Fars out of 5 From Being Ok's.
I need to do another Tarantino marathon to assess where it stands....I’ve also only seen OUATIH once, that needs to be rectified
Pulp Fiction is #1. You just need to decide on the minor placings
Not necessarily. Inglorious basterds, Django and Jackie Brown are outstanding.
Oh please. Django is excellent but nowhere near the ground breaking class of PF. The other 2 are leagues away especially Jackie Brown which I don't rate at all. Reservoir Dogs is miles better than those 2
Yeah PF is probably still number one but again, loved the others I mentioned too. It’s not as straightforward as you think.
Probably right. All those movies have much in common, the great acting, incredible scripts, inherent coolness", awesome soundtracks. I just think the thing that sets PF apart is that it's just so fucking CLEVER. Conceptually it was so unique, when you came out of the cinema you were just "what the fuck did I just see???".
I think the absence of social media helped also, as I had no clue what I was in for. And it probably wasn't until my 2nd or 3rd viewing when I realised how special it was.
The dialogue in some of QT's movies can feel a little forced. Pulp Fiction felt so natural, like that's what hired gun/thugs talked about when they weren't shooting and roughing up people

Do you need to edit this or are you deliberately contradicting yourself ?

Good man.
The dialogue in Pulp Fiction is definitely the most quotable and memorable which as I’ve said probably puts it at number one......but arguments can be made that others are technically better films.

I wasn't sure which thread to put this into, probably the sports TV thread is better. I watched The Short Game on Netflix. Made in 2013 it follows a bunch of kids competing in the World Junior Golf Champs at Pinehurst Country Club. More than a film about golf, it shows why golf is a metaphor for life. I watched it with the CF Jnrs and there were lots of teaching moments about not giving up, working hard, and reacting to life's bad beats the right way (and in some cases the wrong way). 5 child golf prodigies out of 5 angry caddie Dads

Pretty sure we've done our top 10s of QT recently, although knowing this place it could have been 5 years ago.
Anyway, I watched Soul on Disney Plus, I quite enjoyed. It's probably a 3.5 out of 5 normally and a 6/5 if you're on acid.
Probably more an adults movie than a kids one though.

Blues Brothers.
Another random request from youngest. What a cracking film. Great romp and great music.
Interesting comment from son was that the film wouldn’t be nearly as good with CGI. Totally agree. Those car smash scenes must have cost a fortune.

Movie gold. Nice to hear that youngsters still see how good it is.
They held the record for most cars destroyed (60 odd) I think but paid fuck all for them so no idea about the cost. They tried to break their own record with the sequel by one. No idea if they did.

Note to self. Never mention QT again.
Is he any good at cricket though?
Imagine if he directed a star wars.

Palm Springs
On Amazon Prime here, starring Andy Samberg from SNL and Cristin Milioti who has been in a few things like Wolf of Wall Street and Black Mirror.
Had a few genuinely laugh out loud moments and was an interesting look at the time loop thing (Groundhog Day but more swearing, drugs, etc). I thought the two leads were excellent and JK Simmons played a great part as well.
Wasn't just the comedy, either. A bit of pathos through considering mortality etc.
Very watchable.
No tits.

It's either one or the other mate. Not both.
