    @stargazer

Bullshit on the moment of the decade.

Shows how crap public voting is.

Reading that reminded me the All Whites won it in 2010 for three draws. 11yrs on and I am still annoyed (cc: grumpy old man thread).

The All Whites stick out like a sore thumb amongst that lot of World and Olympic champs. People's choice, maybe. No way should they have been considered for the main awards.

I have no problems with the All Whites being in for greatest moment.

That 93rd minute equaliser against Slovakia lives long as an incredible moment for me.

Funny how much the judges were off the mark on the emerging talent category.
I would say that Alice Robinson will prove out the best of that bunch. Ko’s candle burned bright and fast.

That list is heavily weighted towards Olympic sports, which means it is harder to succeed. Particularly in swimming and athletics.

It would be interesting to look at the full list of nominees for each year to see who may have fulfilled their promise but didn't win the ultimate award that year.

agree. Couldn't tell you what half the moments were ... but that Elliot 6 into the stands was a sporting experience I'll take to my grave.

Still loved Vettori's cool walk out under pressure. It didn't get on TV, but he wandered out like he was on a garden stroll, just the relaxed calm in a white hot atmosphere. That game was just incredible, a lazarus like comeback for the Caps

In a decade where the ABs broke the RWC losing streak. Twice, first time ever in a row. Won record percentage of games, and recognised even in US sport circles as the most dominant sports team ever - pretty ridiculous they didn't win. Yeah they went down hill from 17-18, but Bond & Muray were on their way out too.

    Clear no. 2.

Remember 2011 is part of the decade.

It's too easy to bloc vote on these things.

I have never ever experienced tension and relief at the levels of that 2011 RWC final and one viewing of that fan video showing the game and crowds on the waterfront is the only evidence required to prove that it was undoubtedly the NZ sporting moment of the decade.

Here is the race. The last 500 m are great to watch but it depends on your subjective definition of "moment".

The Cohen/Sullivan moment would be my NZ sporting moment of the decade followed closely by Elliot's 6.

@machpants Bond and Murray - double Olympic Gold, a gazillion world champs and over 70 consecutive wins. Rowing arguably a more global sport than rugby. I don't have any issues with them winning TBH

Sporting moment is the one I have an issue with. Like @nzzp I saw the nominees and immediately thought the Hairy Javelin. Best night ever at Eden Park! (2011 was not enjoyable at all)

The fact that Elliott's 6 was in the SF, and not a final, would have counted against it.

That was pretty damn cool, but up there with the ABs in 2011? Nowhere near. Particularly when you consider the stress of the semi-final as well and Carter‘s injury, Donald’s redemption story.

    Carter's injury
    McCaw's injury
    Cruden's injury
    Piri's injury pre-final...
    Slade's injury

Damn, that shit needs a film 😃
