@siam Youtube stops on my Android when I open another app!

@mariner4life obviously not on your scale, but was a shop that had a range of sunnies on 50% special (so only like $125 instead of $250 or something) and I saw the pair I've had my eye on, so went to buy (Boxing day special I think)

So waded through the crowds to get to checkout, hand over the glasses, chick says oh those ones arent on special, points to a poster in store about an error and then a disclaimer in the ad...I was like oh...

So she rings them up and asks if I am paying full price by cash or eft, I was like, erm, neither and sulked my way out.

@mariner4life Aren't you in NZ? Because if so you should go all Consumer Guarantees Act on them, especially if it's a decent sized company.

I'm putting the tub racking on myself (that actually turned up on time) but the roof is a touch more complicated.

Fair nuff. I've never had a vehicle that doesn't have mounting points easily accessible for either rails or racks.

@mariner4life Bugger. Then all I can do is agree you've been screwed. Any chance of someone else fitting them if you just buy them off the liars?

I get all my family of 4 in an X5 with a roof rack with a crap load of space left over when we go for a week.

IT's camping, therefore things are simpler. Thus a regular Sainsbury's or Tesco will do.

Although, since Ocado switched to M & S, Waitrose now feels a little low brow for everyday life.

This time we are going to western Queensland. A place called cobbolt gorge. Looks like there are actually facilities there.

But most of the places I go up.the Cape are super remote

If it's just the boys and I we travel light. When Mrs Mariner is involved we have to pack a lot more.

I don't know whether to put this in a covid thread or here. But seeing as I'm a grumpy old man and I'm already here, then here it is.

So the story is, Mrs Cato, myself and the mutt went for a walk to a local pub. This entails a miserable bit of walking through housing and then some really nice stuff through fields, over rivers and canals etc so the default position is to drive the 2 miles of shit and walk the rest. So far so usual; however Mrs Cato has been out an about on her bicycle and has a "new route". It seems a little vague to me but I'll go along with the plan because she knows what she is doing. Anyway once parked up and walking we miss the turning even though I had suggested this as perhaps the way to go and ended up waking along a busy road and an even busier cycle path before getting to said pub. Now this pub is in an idyllic situation, between the river and the canal, with a huge garden that has some magnificent trees, which must be over 200 years old. Here is where it all goes wrong and it's Covid to blame, together with over exuberant applications and a dependance upon IT that doesn't always work.

So, sign in, OK, but if I actually want to have a drink I HAVE to order it via the app, which of course I have to download. Naturally the QR code doesn't fucking work, so I have to download it from the app store. Not a big issue but then the fun starts. I can't just download it, I have to get a verification code via my email. I've provided my proper email address rather than my on phone gmail option so now I have to download that fucker and of course I've forgotten my password. Finally I get through this bollocks but lo and behold things can only get more complex. Said app wants me to provide payment details online and, AND provide them with a picture of myself so that their staff know they are dealing with the correct person.

Now, I really wanted a beer by this time but not that fucking much. I realise that much of the problem is my lack of IT nous but for crying out loud, you're just coming out of one of the worst times for the hospitality industry, why not make things easy.

Oh and as a by the way, the pub was about a quarter fulll on the sunniest day of the year when usually it would have been one and a half times over subscribed.

    Twats.

    @catogrande

Obviously the same IT designers I came across years ago when I worked for Citibank. They ran an in-house, secure email service managed from New York. The idea was secure email access globally - particularly if you were travelling on business.

If you lost your password or couldn't log in, you rang a number in New York and they reset your password but couldn't give you a new password on the phone for security reasons. They either emailed it to you (whwn you had no email) or sent you a new password in internal mail to your home location..... Bloody brilliant if you were in Bangalore or Warsaw.

    Morons.

My curmudgeon quotient was very high. Accordingly I went elsewhere. I had a very nice couple of pints in the garden of another pub and the dog was given two bone shaped biscuits. So it got my vote and his.

Not COVID related, but went somewhere (vineyard cellar door thing) over the weekend where they had one of those QR code ordering app things.

    Thought I'd try it.

First up Mrs Boo wanted to try the tasting flight of four of their wines. Not on the on line menu.

Thought I'd try ordering my poncey craft beer, and then had the same issue as Cato having to register and log a credit card... and fuck that I'll walk the 10m to the bar.
