@kiwimurph this is symptomatic of inexperienced players and new combinations. But we saw on Saturday when they changed things in that middle part of the game, the pressure went on the Aussies and points came pretty freely. Was very good to watch.

I think it's also part of the problem of having "dual play makers" - the guy playing at 10 constantly gets caught in two minds due to the constant stream of "its on out wide" or similar from the guy playing full back who only sees the acres of space directly in front of him and not the crowded midfield and rushing defenders in front of the guy playing 10. It's also horrible for a guy who's relatively new to the team and has been asked to run the cutter to constantly have that chat from a more experienced player outside him.

In short, ditch the dual play maker system and move Jordie to fullback.

Between Aaron Smith saying it's the tens job to make the calls, this post, and watching DMac charge around like a crab, I think I know where the blame for the crazy'let's go wide whatever' calls in the first half lays 😉

In fairness to D Mac, it can be and has been just as bad when BB has been at fullback in the dual playmaker system

@act-crusader but it is also symptomatic of the halfback. We like his quick delivery but he needs to direct the forwards more. He makes the decision to spin it wide vs organizing the pack.

Fair call that - I think he probably got too used to just being the guy who provides quick services rather than a conductor. He was able to do this for a long time when he was not a senior leader in the team and his job was just to give DC some quick ball and when our backline was generally operating with a lot more space. With this team and all the issues going on both inside and outside him he really needs to ply more like a Fourie du Preez type halfback conducting the orchestra (which he already does very well for the Highlanders)

Made me think, if I had the option to jump in a car tonight, and drive somewhere to watch an ABs game and have a night out with mates, what's the line on kms I'd be prepared to travel?

Right now, I think I'd set the line at about 10,000kms.

..I do hope a few NZ based ferners go to the ABs game though, except any that tend to curse ABs by turning up..

Don't worry, I live on the other side of the world in Cornwall, England...

It's pleasing the players are making the right noises

Yeah, it's good they are analysing for themselves what's going right and what's not, and taking collective responsibility for their performance. Great to see the senior players like Nugget standing up.

Some of the new combinations should be a little more settled as well which could mean a much better performance all round.

    Spot on.

But, if you did that last weekend, what's the line now?

Any word on Coles/Barrett (S)/Jordan injury status? All would be in 23 if fit.

Jordie is not a bench impact player, he either starts at 15, or is not in 23. So I'd get another winger

Am sure BB would like the opportunity to get played into form that BBBR is getting.

I'd bring Jordan in for Reece, BB for Dmac, Jacobson for Savea (Savea to the bench).

I'd give DH another chance at 12 to tidy up his defence and run straighter to allow ALB to do something other than tidy up RM, Dmac, Reece and DH sideways running.

Beauden wants to be a 1st 5 so probably isn't an option at fullback now. I'd quite like to see JB given a chance, only for a comparison.

I'm not expecting many changes in the starting XV but a few on the bench.

RI wants to be a 13 and is playing 11...
