@broughie It will be double the price, even allowing for the exchange rate. The standard 1L Maker's Mark is $60 (US$42).

The only time I ever went to Sam's Club was to buy a leg of NZ lamb to cook for the flatmates.

@bovidae I brought some lamb chops recently but as much as I like a leg of lamb my children have nothing to do with it :-).

    Look what you've started @Billy-Tell

Hope you give it a go and will be interested in what you think. FYI, up until December 2015 I thought exactly the same as you did. Til an American mate brought some Makers Mark on a holiday.

Yep, Maker's Mark really is the dogs nuts. Generally prefer Scotch or Japanese, but it would be hard to pass up a Maker's regardless of what the other choices are

Edit: I am also currently enjoying some Buffalo Trace, having bought a bottle after hearing Joe Rogan was lyrical about it and then seeing a bottle on sale - not bad and definitely more Maker's Mark than Jim Beam

Nah its Tennessee whiskey. Similar enough though, just slightly different filtering processes.

I'm an occasional scotch drinker, and I've never bought a bourbon in my life other than Aldi brand one for cocktails. Just got a bottle of Maker's Mark last night on your recommendations, and I have to say it's very nice. Wasn't expecting that at the price.

@victor-meldrew If you enjoyed that, there are two others worth considering...

Gentleman Jack and Jack Silver Select.

    Cheers

I've bought a bottle of the Growing Wings Solera and the Growing Wings from the pinot cask on a visit to the distillery two weeks ago. A bunch of us are looking at buying a barrel too...

@smudge i have been down that "buy a barrel" route, i couldn't get enough people interested and although the 2-3 of us that were keen could still afford it....in the end i realised id still just end up with 10-15 bottles of the same whiskey, and i still enjoy trying new ones

I do love the idea though if you can get enough people into it

A little Xmas present for myself, to be enjoyed after Xmas dinner.

Really gotten into Islay whiskies over the past year, especially those with a good whack of peat so I wanted to try this one from Caol Ila

My mate and I thought maybe 2-3 of our mates would be interested. We're up to 12 in less than 2 weeks...

@smudge that would work, would have been happy with 2-4 bottles each

....now thinking about a "fern" whiskey barrel
