One of my aunts was babysitting me as a young kid and we watched Omen. For all the "bad bits" she'd make me throw a blanket over my head so I didn't see. My imagination was worse...
I watched that film once, when I was a kid, and to this day I think of the elevator scene every time I get in one.

The old man used to drag me along to the movies quite a bit and would have seen plenty of classic westerns and James Bond but his favourite of all time was Zulu ( welsh ancestry) which I had to admit was a great movie. May have been Michael Caines first major role too

That was a staple in my house growing up. As were other notables like Dambusters, A Bridge Too Far, Sink the Bismarck, etc. Every time they were on TV they were watched.

Or it was the slipper and bed with no tea

I watched it as a kid with my cousins as my uncle left us at home by ourselves with the video player, oddly I don't really remember being freaked out by it, but I was upset by the Bruce Lee film we watched as I think some women got killed when their dojo got attacked by the Japanese (Google tells me it was Fist of Fury which made the equivalent today of $600m off a 600k budget).
The most terrifying thing I saw as a kid was on a general drama, I was sick so my Mum let me stay up and watch TV with her, and there was US story set in the 1800s sometime and one of the characters got stung to death by a swarm of bees - I straight up had nightmares about that for months.

@antipodean My Dad’s other Go To was Where Eagles Dare. Which, BTW, has the best theme tune of all the war films, and I will brook no dissent on this.

Obviously an awesome movie cos Clint……
Von Ryans Express was also a brilliant WWII flick. I love a good ensemble 60s war film although as this trailer shows they are shockingly dated nowadays…..

Guns of Navarone was mine and my Dad's go too to watch together back in the day.

Fuuck.. all this mention of the old WWII movies - Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone, etc... has reminded me I used to love the books those were based on as a kid - but haven't even thought of those authors in years.
So... just added to download list: movies - Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone, Von Ryan's Express, The Eagle Has Landed; and epub collections: Jack Higgins, Alistair MacLean
Depending on how that toe-dip into nostalgia goes, I might be adding every Dirty Dozen movie, and looking for a collection of the old "Commando" comics.
