While not excusing Zac's behaviour, I do have some sympathy for a young man who learns his father died while watching him on the field. It's just a pity that alcohol appears to have become a coping mechanism.
Like anyone who has spent time in high pressure environments with a drinking culture, I've witnessed some deplorable behaviour from people who addictive personalities. The damage appears to be dependent on how early they have an episode of such magnitude they accept they have a problem.

@rancid-schnitzel I understand why you're pissed off about the Wheeler situation but that's a ridiculous comparison and dramatic to suggest he's been "cast out of society."
Seen Joe Wheeler on TV recently?
The fact remains that for some inexplicable reason, second, third etc chances are given for violent crimes yet you’re beyond redemption if you write or say something that might offend someone. I’d rather have someone grievously insult me in a car park than headbutt me. I’d also be much more likely to give a second chance to someone who insults one of kids rather than someone who tries to sell them drugs.
There's another thread for this but hardly an apples for apples comparison. Got examples of those 3rd chances for violence?
What would be an apples for apples comparison?
One with similar consequences?
So when an offensive phrase results in the victim being rushed to the ER? Or an offensive tweet causes a kid to OD? A car park insult resulting in someone going to the morgue?
What happened to that Wellington winger who grievously assaulted a bunch of people ( including some women if I remember rightly ). I hope his career hasn’t suffered too much from the hardship of having to appear in court and getting his convictions quashed

He is still playing club rugby in Wellington. Not a bad player but nothing special.

Thankfully no.
He's on right now.

Hopefully the “Karens” are alerted to his presence and ready to complain on behalf of everyone......

When Stuff published an article months ago with name suppression it was obvious who it was. It appears Zac can't be helped despite plenty of people trying.

Judges continually letting him off the hook lightly are not helping. He needs to go to jail and get help.

Agree 100%. The whole getting 25% off for pleading guilty at the earliest possible time has always irked me - especially because it's generally not the earliest possible time, it's the when they've reviewed the disclosure and realised they're screwed. That would be a good incentive where maybe the case isn't clear cut or there might be a chance of a successful trial outcome for the defendant, but this would have been a slam dunk, given the electronic evidence. If not for the guilty plea, he'd have almost certainly cross the two year threshold for a term of imprisonment.
He wrote all his other offending off as alcohol related, but stealing from his elderly grandfather repeatedly shows what a piece of trash he actually is, underneath it all.
I hope he gets the help he needs, but I'm not optimistic

@Kirwan wonder if his whanau had any influence or say in what they thought his sentence should be, if so, you'd think they would likely have been against jail time?
As low and despicable a thing he did, I dont think many families would be overly keen to see someone they love behind bars?

Someone moved it when the conversation moved to appropriate sentences, recidivism etc
Will leave it here because that’s where it will drift to again. We’re talking about serial offender Zac, not Zac the rugby player who ran funny
