@gt12 ah right - I seem to remember that when comparing the XC40 EV to my X-Trail as a replacement option. A mate of mine was convinced I should wait for the XC60.
However, my kids are almost-18 and 14, and while they need the room now, in a few years we're not going to have them around as much. Seems like overreach.

I'm waiting to see if we get e-power X-trail.

@gt12 I'm keen to jump straight to full electric TBH. Hybrid makes sense in some areas but you're dragging around two drive trains and barely using one depending on conditions.
Pros and cons.
Yeah, we won't go that far yet.
We were/are looking at the BMW PhV but the set-up here is harder than I realised as we would need to re-wire in 200V power for the charger and would need approval from the entire building to do that (which is really fucking annoying). I quite like the e-power setup too.

OK, we are definitely in car change mode now.
Have 3 kids (8,3 and 1) so need a 7 seater as anything extra (I.e. Nana wants a lift) and I have to ride my bike to meet them in our current 5 seater.
Looked at a Volvo XC90 today and it was huge and just intimidated my wife. Also do not love the idea of still having to worry about a petrol engine and actually servicing it plus electric.
Then went to Mercedes and checked out the EQB which honestly felt much better. Fully electric and the wife felt instantly more assured she could use it.
Stock is low and the price is just under 60k but would mean we are sorted for the shift to electric.
Not even considering any pure petrol or diesel options to be honest.
Limited choices for 7 seaters but we think EQB is the way forward.
If any experts have a view would be keen to hear.
Still need to test drive but hopefuly it will be a good drive which obviously needs confirming but seems solid option. (Couldn't find time today as we still had the one year old with us unfortunately)

@davesofthunder have you checked the big Tesla? A mate had one, I think seats 6. Pricy though I understand
-
In laws have EQC. Said range is really shit. Everything kills it. Would not use it to go further than 100 miles.
Outside thst though think car is great.
I’d look at the model s if I were you. How often will the other seats be used? Kids will love sitting in the boot!
-
Even an old model s is far beyond what I can justify spending on a car.
Even the Merc has me figuring how best to do it
-
Technically electric and I thought it was cool
-
@bayimports awesome concept.
However, like lots of things, I'm believe it when I see it

true, but if it got off the ground (pun intended) then I would love to give this a go. Wonder if they have factored in weather conditions lol
-
@bayimports spot on
I'm sure weather is factored. The Russian plane was insane-worth a look.
If it goes ahead the way they think, it's a transport revolution

There are a couple of Tesla Y owners here in Australia doing Federal Highway 1 in opposite directions.
That's pretty cool. Love to do "The Lap" one day. The record is something like 2 weeks but I'd love to take at least 6 to stop off and see the things I want to spend more time on. About 16,000km with my X-Trail and a swag. Would be rad.

Fantastic idea and I'd agree, if doing the whole thing shouldn't rush it.

@nostrildamus Friends of mine took a year off and toured Oz. They maintain there's heaps they haven't seen.
