NQ, that used to be the case, but Macs have gone to shit with programs no longer running because of upgrades. My built-in camera on my MacBook Air being a great example - upgraded and it no longer worked - some bullshit about it no longer being recognized. 
I've been a hug Mac fan (5 Macs, 2 iPads) for a long time, but I'm looking elsewhere for my next computer. I'll end up buying a Mac, but they are no longer the 'trust us, your shit will just work' mob that they once were.

I just find it more reliable than others.
 
I've never had a problem with any of our Apple products apart from broken screens but you get that when you leave three of their products on the roof of the car.
 
We have been with Apple for around 5 years now and are yet to have an issue. I can't remember ever having 5 years on the trot with no issues from other ones I have owned.

I had issues on one of our iPads where the password for purchasing suddenly stopped being required, and Miss TR buying $60 worth of apps....that said, I don't get into the whole Apple v everyone else issue, I like the iPads, have an ASUS laptop, have a Samsung phone, Sony Smart TV, and haven't had any compatibility issues with stuff.

I think Hooroo makes a good point - but for "double the price" I'd expect zero fucking issues or I'd want my money back.

I disagree, my Surface kicks the ass of the iPad piece of shit my wife tried to use.
 
I have had zero issues with my Windows 10 desktop, in fact it has been nothing short of outstanding.

My point was too general. The Surface computers are awesome, but as the computer itself is a Microsoft product then it will be well tested. It's when you purchase other products - HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus, Acer - that you can run into issues.
 
There's a lot more that can go wrong.

I dont think Apple is more stable (less prone to issues) than Windows, and all the evidence bears that out as well as real life instances where stability really matters. But stability is a relative thing, the reality is that shit can happen to Windows or Apple, and wether it does or not is usually down to bad luck, human error, or user ignorance. My wifes iPad was a prime example. It was a piece of shit, but that does not extrapolate out to mean I think they are shit for everyone. Just a personal experience with a particular device in a particular environment.
 
Getting back to Apple Corp and its decline. Sorry I should have been clearer. Apple are not in a decline to inferior technology, or profits.
But they have just hit a new phase of bloated corporate BS. They are not on the bleeding edge of anything, their tech is hitting a life cycle stage that is entirely expected. It is really hard to be the front runner. They are just not innovating as much as others any more. They are living off rehashed versions of the same old products, add a certain level of saturation.... and sales get affected. They desperately need something new, maybe they have it coming up. But I doubt it.
Microsoft is absolutely kicking their ass on the innovation front at the moment. But that will take awhile to hit mainstream, and in the meanwhile Apple will carry on being.. huge. But huge tech firms always go through cycles and associated declines that seem impossible before they happen.
 
Interestingly, if .. another firm comes out with a 'wow' product like Hololens.. then Apple might lose its hold on education sectors.. and that would be the beginning of the end of their time at the top... for now..

Sounds like it may be worth looking at whether the laptop is looking for the same band/protocol as the wifi is sending eg g, n,ac. 
They seem to have problems seeing each other rather than connecting from what you have described

Anyway hate to bring this back on topic and avoid a good ol Mac v PC debate..but TR was operating system is your laptop using?
 
Maybe try getting your laptop to forget the current connection. On Windows 7: Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Center - Manage wireless networks
Select your home connection and click Remove.
Restart your Laptop as well as your Router.
Now see if you can see the home connection.
 
(Also apple products suck balls and anyone who tells you different have been hypnotized by there incredible shinyness and over-the-top hype marketing :fishing: )

I'm on Win10 and have been pretty much since the update was available...as I said, I can see networks, just not my one (unfortunately they are secure ones )
 
I do know I did some updates around the time of the issue first appearing, and then after restoring it back a couple of days, more updates again maybe on Tuesday?
 
I expect that is likely the issue.
 
But will have a play when I get home tonight.

Oh when you restart your router give it a good couple of minutes before repowering. Some will do a hot restart if you don't and it won't clear any possible problem.

All I know is that I am yet to have a problem in 5 years with any apple product but constantly had issues with others Windows etc.
 
That makes it a good marketing point of difference to me and others that are similar in not having issue with Apple products but have had with microsoft.

I've started to wane a bit after a few issues with our imac. Now, I know it's now 5 years old, and most computers are past their shelf life by then, but I've had to replace the hard drive, but it still seems to have some issues. Given the extra cost, I am thinking of going back to a PC. 
 
But I'm not convinced that I can be bothered trying to setup a PC to be the central part of an entire household of apple products - an ipad, 2 iphone's, a macbook, apple tv and a 2TB routers/backup thing. Not to mention an icloud account which has everything I'll ever need.
 
Can I trust everybody who says it will be simple? No matter what you say, I'm sure I'll just be buying a new apple.

def done that, on Saturday night was off for about 10 mins, and I knew it was an unusual problem when the iPads connected but the laptop couldn't see the connection at all.

Have you tried reverting to a restore point created prior to the upgrades?
 
I had this exact issue prior to upgrading to Windows10. The upgrade fixed it
 
I reckon there should be a new version of Godwins law measuring how long it takes for an IT topic to denigrate into name calling Apple v non-Apple

Quite correct. Apple have done a very good job of locking people in. But that is also a challenge for them in securing more market share,because those that are willing to (or dont care) be locked into one corporations products.. have been mined.. and sold to.
It is going be a very interesting few years, and like I said, it will take a 'wow' product to make people be willing to sacrifice their Apple eco-system. Just a new PC is not usually enough.

At work you can keep your own phone or have an iPhone6 (or 6s I think) or Samsung equiv of 6s (or 6). Stuff all keep their own phone or go for the Samsung.
 
I think the iPhone just suits those that aren't tech twats.

I barely get time to watch movies these days, so for me it's about music - and spotify has me completely sorted there. I've not even looked at Apple Music, purely because I know I've got too much vested there already. And now that AC/DC is on spotify, I can't think of a single band thats missing on there.
 
Although I do keep getting receipts for shit like Planes, Volt!, Penguins, Frozen continuously coming through my mail ...
