@MN5 well you could also just not specify Hairy Maclary, Bottomly Potts, Muffin McLay, Bitzer Maloney, schnitzel von krumm as having a gender, but then I guess thats part of the 'issue'...
**Hercules Morse (with his manly name) and Scarface Claw the toughest Tom in Town are probably the only 2 clearly defined as males?

I liked this bitone has to remember that lady dogs have certain times when they're not supposed to be out gallivanting anyway," she added.
What about the Hungry Caterpiller, surely they'd call it fat shaming for all the eating!
WIth names like that all they’re doing is reinforcing negative dominant male stereotypes. What was Dodds thinking ?!?!

Strong is the narcissism & faux rage in this one.
(Hopefully the comments will help him become a better person)

Make an extremely bad judgement….get the boot. Play the race/sexual orientation card.
Enjoy the dole lines pal.

British fossil fuel lunatic protesters — typically sad looking older white people, just an observation — continue to glue themselves to paintings in the Royal Academy. Last week it was Constable and Van Gogh, today it’s Da Vinci’s Last Supper. These extremist whackjobs aren’t moving the needle on their cause a millimetre with undecideds and their actions are more likely to backfire and harden feelings against them. I’m totally against violence, but concede there are times somebody needs a slap upside their head.

Seems appropriate to put this here.
RDJr was great in that. Probably lots of fodder for the woke crowd to froth over, but fuck em, don't let them ruin the joy of these kinds of funny movies. If you're gonna get triggered, don't watch and let the rest of us enjoy them

@taniwharugby Just to clarify, the report author is claiming that the human characters are outdated, not the dogs. The vet, the butcher, the head teacher being men etc.
I agree that the whole whole piece of research seems like a solution in search of a problem, but to be fair the media reports could have been a little bit more transparent. It's not about the dogs being male, female or gender diverse.
-
@JC TBF, I didnt read it, only watched the piece on TV, where they were talking about the animals...
Also, the Very Hungry Caterpiller, I cant recall, but my recollection of the book is a Caterpiller that was very hungry, ate lots of food, and then one day, turned into a beautiful butterfly...unsure what aspects there require diversity.
But it is searching for issues where there arent really issues.

People are quite happy to enjoy period pieces ( I know, Bridgerton had black nobles, but others try to be more authentic). Why can't they just leave books written a long time ago well alone?

We would have thought less of you if you had read it. That's not how the Fern works!

I think the researcher has a problem with the caterpillar being a "he".
But it is searching for issues where there arent really issues.
Here's her statement of research interests. When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail...
- Children's literature to support principles of diversity - (current focus in early childhood)
- Children's literature and its importance in the social and emotional development of the child
- Diversity and inclusivity
- Effective literacy instruction across the curriculum

This reminds me of the perennial snowboarders not allowed to ride at Alta, Deer Valley & Mad River Glen Ski Resorts in the US whinge.
Every Winter the snowboarders get their knickers and civil rights in a twist playing the victim card saying it's unconstitutional and unfair that they're refused entry from these resorts.
And every year the ruling goes against them, with the big message being build a 'snowboard only' resort if it means that much to you.
We're still waiting.
No skier would give a shit if they couldn't ski somewhere - there's more than enough choice.
In fact for many older skiers they'd love it if the snowboarders fucked off.
But not content with only being refused entry to just three resorts, and knowing that a snowboard only resort would tank quickly they still have to bleat.
Simplistic analogy I know, but hopefully you get the drift.
Same thing happened with male only establishments / clubs.

Yeah. Local golf club held out for years having a separate men only bar but eventually caved in to the pressure to abolish it. Immediate result was a flood of complaints from women about the amount of swearing in the bar.
