OK, looks like England and SL at home next summer

we have a short form tour to Pakistan and India. that shit will be tough - and in Jan/Feb 23??? Should be our home summer 😞

But then 5 tests in Pakistan. Our first ever 5 test series ... or at least in living memory?

England away in 23, and hosting SA and Aus later in the year.

Still some big gaps in teh calendar by the look

@nzzp from memory don't Pakistan think we owe them a few extra matches? Wonder how that fits into the plans... haven't checked if those are in Pakistan or NZ. I could imagine some nervous cricketers doing a 5-match series over there, that's a looong tour.

we do, and it's over there. We left last time early and they didn't like it

No one following the Craps in the Windies?

ODI 1 and a trademarked BC mid inning flurry of wickets left us scrambling for 190 all out.
It may pan out to be an OK score but I doubt it. Certainly the slow bowlers are doing better on this pitch and so far Satnav and Bracewell are the pick. Boult and Ferg getting done.

Pfffft, it’s only the longest version of one of the short versions of cricket. No one cares about ODIs anymore. Don’t worry about it.

Mind you if Kevin Pietersen has his way we won’t be playing test cricket in a few years.

    Fuck.

can't see it, because the players wnat to play it.

T20 pays the bills, but for a lot of cricket players and fans, Test Cricket is still where it's at. Only if that goes will it die... but people keep forecasting the death of Tests and they just keep surviving, delivering and getting better.

…..and whilst test cricket can drag and be boring at times it is still far and away the best when it’s played well.

there is nothing like a good Test match. Nothing in sport for me, it's pinnacle. You invest, you follow it, and the series twist and turn. That Aus India series last year was as good as it got; smashing people coming back with unlikely wins, and then a bunch of T20 players getting up at the Gabba to win the series and send us to the WTC game.

    Awesome.

Some might be surprised to know that NZ A is currently touring India, and playing in the 1st "test". One of the most bizarre scorecards in NZ A's first innings.

Interesting read and I’m in two minds about it.

He had all the talent in the world but other less talented guys like Henry Nicholls didn’t have the off field dramas I guess.

If alcohol wasn’t a factor I reckon a middle order of KW/Rossco/Ryder would have ABSOLUTELY kicked all sorts of arse at test level.

Hard to know what happened behind the scenes. But JR seemed like a guy who didn't really want to be helped

Doesn't entirely add up, though? i'm afraid.

When exactly were the 2 years of sobriety?

I don't see a 2 year period where he was dominating but not getting picked for NZ opportunities. I only see 1 season 2014/15.

Probably moot. The fact he couldn't last more than 2 years shows it was probably the correct decision regardless, sadly.

Looking at this (list of NZ appearances):

    All-round records | Combined Test, ODI and T20I records | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com

I can't help but think that's JR's definition of "sober" is a little different to the norm and probably why he didn't make it back into the team...

It's not just the off field dramas there's the issue of application of talent as relates to cricket.

    What's that old saying......

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
