Have you seen the full quote? Or just the twitter bullshit?
The full quote is about spending 700 mill on the Nuclear plant. He states it's like buying 20 quid kettle which saves you 10 quid one year, then 10 quid the next and so on.
It's a decent comparison to make a point, which the Anti Boris twitter brigade elected to misquote to brew up further hatred.
Exactly, he wasn't even talking about energy bills here.
He says enough stupid shit without people needing to clip stuff out of context to generate fake rage.
Is this about the nuclear instead of wind turbine thing?
Am I wrong in thinking the below is a rather simplistic view? No mention of how the energy from the turbines is harnessed or the environmental impact.

I don’t know anything about power generation really. But commonsense says that since wind turbines can’t be used 100% of the time (because there is not enough or too much wind) you’d be obliged build a hydro or fossil fuel backup capability as well. Whoever wrote this didn’t factor in the construction, running and environmental cost of that. So it’s disingenuous at best.

Teresa is an imbecile. No reactor has cost >£35 billion. I guess if you simply make up numbers and ignore contributory factors you can come to the conclusion that you want.
Meanwhile the IEA has facts: https://www.iea.org/articles/levelised-cost-of-electricity-calculator

@antipodean Thanks, that's awesome!

Wishy Washy Sunak did himself absolutely no favours despite having more ability in his left toe

@MiketheSnow did himself no favours? Contentious and sad but I think a large chunk of why he lost is because he’s not white. The Tory faithful could tolerate brown faces in cabinet but not top dog.

Any evidence for this claim?

Nope, nothing documented or published. And I guess no one would freely admit to it which makes it difficult to prove or disprove. I do know some older Tory members though, who are intrinsically rascist.

I’d think it is more to do with him not being Tory enough in his tax policies.

From Wikipedia: Sizewell C - approx 10 year construction timeline and a cost of c. £16Bn. Generating capacity of 3,260 mW.

I've worked closely with a number of political parties at local level, including senior and elderly Tories and never, ever heard any racist comments from any of the latter, though they had an intolerance & loathing for "anti-racist" stuff which they saw as divisive. The only racist comments I heard were anti-Semitic in nature and came from 1-2 Lib Dems

I was in favour of Sunak until he started flip-flopping on tax, VAT and ended up losing track of what his policies actually were. I think a lot of Truss's policies are bonkers and she comes across as a lightweight, but she seemed more genuine and principled to me to me.

It’s stuff like this which is how you end up with Trump in power.
Sunak would have strolled this if he was politically savvy. He’s clearly a smart cookie. But he was too easy to pick apart, trying to run a country like a business.
I’m sure a few voters didn’t vote as he was brown. But that’s not why he lost.

@MajorRage exactly. He as chancellor took the tax burden to the highest % of gdp in 70yrs, then ran for the leadership saying cutting tax was irresponsible. The membership quite rightly told him to get in the bin.
Is frustrating as he's clearly a more smart/capable human than Truss, just shit tactics/direction. Kind of like the ABs under Foster..

Rishi is the class act, but seems too conventional in times where some new thinking is very much needed.

Raising taxes coming into a recession isn't a good look.

Sinai didn’t advocate for raising taxes now though. He just didn’t want to lower them.

I guess the elephant in the room is the budget deficit and borrowing levels and how to keep them at reasonable levels.
Thatcher/Howe raised taxes in a recession in '81 to keep government borrowing under control. Hugely controversial at the time (and resulted in 384 eminent economists writing a letter to the papers predicting the budget would destroy the economy), but the opposite happened and is/was seen as a turning point on the economy.

Yes but he had just raised them in the previous budget
