@Joans-Town-Jones As much as I want Akira to succeed he's just a low energy player. He reminds me of my daughter playing soccer. He waddles around the field. Had to have a measure of fitness in 7's. What happened? He sure has some speed when I'm open space. Never lacks for fitness there. Nothing wrong with what he did but tired. Wonder if his psyche is damage from the dominant dude to riding the pine?

And Frizzell, wasn't running onto the ball so he was less effective. And while Blackadder has a better engine he makes little impression in the tackle. A thousand tackles and the other team is still moving forward.

Yes, @canefan, can a 6 step up and put in a dominant performance.

Yeah was disappointed in SF today. Maybe the right coach can get AI to fire big time.

For me we need to try JB and ALB in midfield and Rieko on the wing. But happy if Telea gets a deserved chance v Scotland.

@sparky said in All Blacks vs Wales:

Neither Clarke or Reece looked sharp today. Not that it mattered.

How about for Edinburgh ALB to 13, Reiko Ioane to 11, Stevenson to 14?

Leicester Fainga'anuku more likely. If there's one game that offers a good opportunity to give him more game time, it's the Scotland game. Telea shouldn't be ahead of him, and Stevenson isn't even in the squad.

A Smith darts through to score a great try. Learned from his poor pass in the face of the Welsh rush that gifted Wales 3 points earlier. He should do more of that to keep opposition defensive lines honest

@JC there was a period there where he was joining the pick and go and in around the ruck. He was also supporting the drive. Not a classic wingers game but he was still involved.

We hardly attacked down that side or even when Reece was stationed more centre in a couple of set piece formations he was used as a decoy. And Wales hardly attacked down their left side.

@Stargazer just seems crazy to keep Telea in AB's and miss Baabaas match if he is not going to get a run v Scotland.

Thought Reece tried hard to provide positive impact the whole time. He just got no opportunities from his team mates.

Id be looking for a Caleb Clarke replacement to be honest.

    Stevenson?
    Jordan at fullback?

@ARHS Agree, but it's even crazier not to give LF game time. Maybe start LF, and Telea on the bench? Risky though, replacing two more experienced players with rookies.

Must admit that was the most forward orientated performance I have seen in a long time and I have to say I loved it.

I'd love to see the stats on forward carries for the game vs the average for last few years. The pick and goes and just solid tight work laid the foundation for the pretty boys.

We had some obvious mistakes that need working on, but overall I was very happy with that.

6 is still not right IMO, looking forward to more of MMT and Gardiner, might be a bit late for them but love their workrates.

I'd be happy for either, with Akira on the bench (not Frizell).

I think it would be a huge call for Foster to not bring Cane back. Remember how he called Frizell "family"? Cane is even closer to him. This will be interesting.

What a hilariously derpy game of footy.

It seemed like every time a team did something good, they would immediately do something stupid. Some of those AB penalties were fucking idiotic.

But we fucking smashed them. On the scoreboard and on the pitch. Suddenly last week against Japan makes more sense. We're going to smash teams up front. Deadset we could have selected loose forwards at 11-14 and been a better side. The backs did nothing, got given nothing. 2003 England watched that and thought "gee that's a bit much". I reckon we ignored about 3 overlaps because Mo'unga was happy to watch Smith and the forwards work.

Defence was fucking great too. Except for the dumb ass ruck penalties.

That's a pretty sweet performance and win. Starting forwards will sleep well. Bit of a statement up front actually.

@nostrildamus Cane should be the guy who gets the call if he’s needed at this stage. Just let him play Super, part of the wider squad and if we get a couple injuries at 7 then there’s a fresh Sam Cane for a game. Just so much wear and tear on the poor guy.

Great to see Aaron Smith running.

THe last time he made a metre was in Arg 2, basically hasn't run for 4 games until now

There appeared to be a number of subtle plays throughout the game and there was a distinct difference in structure and gameplan. I can't help but wonder if Schmidt has been working behind the scenes on some of this. Perhaps Smith is implementing his plan, who knows.

Something I did notice was a big reluctance to move the ball backwards to go forwards if that makes sense. Traditionally we have passed deep to go forward but with rush defence you end up losing metres. Tonight, they kept it close with the ball rarely going that far behind the ruck line. Pick and goes etc are often easy metres. The only issue with this is 13,11,14 are not going to see as much ball as they once did but judging by CC and Reece tonight that might be a good thing.

Not you personally because I don't know your stance when the AB 15 was named but Fernland is so fickle (not sure that is the word I am looking for?). In the space of one game Gardiner has gone from 'fucking Canterbury bias, what the fuck is Gardiner getting picked for?' to 'how about putting him at 6 for the ABs.'

I wonder how much the humid conditions and slippery ball played a part in that?

Based on how he had Ireland playing I think its fair to say that the gameplan had Schmidt's fingerprints all over it. None of the helter skelter shit. Very direct and conservative. I would have liked to have seen the backs unleashed a bit more but this is a good starting point and a million times better than the aimless dross against Ireland.
