Edit: I have gone from disliking Foster, through despising him, to outright hating what he has done. I may no longer be entirely objective. I no longer care.

I go along with Mariner, you obviously need help, to hate someone you don't know and then to boast publicly about it screams of either needing help, or a 5yo kid has your log in details.

I didn't actually say I hate Foster. I said I hate what he has done (to the ABs).

He seems an amiable man, as a person.

Edit, probably should have also made it clear dislike and despise what he has done.

In all seriousness though I'd be really happy if Schmidt got the role, he's my preferred candidate.

Schmidt was also my preferred candidate in 2019, but 4 years have passed since then and after the debacle of 2022 if NZR have any integrity they should reward Razor's loyalty.

He was mucked around last year, he was given assurances of the job, he would've gone overseas already if those assurances weren't genuine.

He's clearly been told something - as he's stuck around despite what happened last year, so if NZR value integrity they will appoint him.

If Schmidt wants to stay on with him, even better

I think NZR have already given Razor "assurances" that the job will be his post-2023, hence his media comments, however they are going through the current process in order to appear professional and to give NZ public the impression that they're doing their 'due diligence' this time and covering 'all-bases' this time round after how shambolic the process was in 2019.

The Problem for Razor with that is NZR seem to have been pretty free with implying, hinting,Whichever you prefer,IF the rumours are true about previous situations.
I would not be holding my breath until the contact is signed sealed and delivered.

A Razor, Schmidt combo would cover all bases, wouldn't it?

Schmidt obviously has some good qualities as a coach but he is also a coach with two 'failures' at RWCs.

Do they put them both up as candidates and do we the viewers get to vote one of them off ?

NZ of all nations should understand how hard it is to win RWCs. After all it took us 24 years between cup wins #1 and #2

I can't believe people have the energy to keep this up every day. Pace yourself. You'll need that energy once Schmit Hammett is announced as coach.

    FIFY

If that happens I'll make the rest of this thread look like a warm up.

Can I save this for when we dip out in the quarters?
Schmidt took two Ireland teams that were on hot streaks to World Cups and never made it into the top four.
He did a great job getting the team up the rankings, winning 6Ns etc but couldn’t get performances when it counted.
His successor has improved his team.
I’m not quite sure why some here think he is what we need.

The problem with Schmit's Irish teams was that their highly attritional game plan made it hard for them to back up 2 huge games. They'd effectively blown their load against France in 2015 and the preceeding 3 years had taken their toll in 2019. They had nothing left in the tank. Not conducive at all to tournament rugby. He wouldn't have to do that with the ABs and there are certainly elements from those Irish teams that would be nice to see in the ABs. Some forward muscle for starters!

But I don't believe for a second he'll be head coach. How can you sell that to the NZ rugby public? Unless they discover a decomposed corpse in his car or he badly injures himself breakdancing, it will be Razor.

I'd be happy with either but with a serious review after 1 and 2 years and not just on the coaching, but also on what in NZ rugby is impacting AB success. Thought the latter should have happened last year.

I heard a bit of talk today that Vern Cotter is aligned to Razor’s coaching team.
He does have some history as forward Coach at the Crusaders a wee way back.
