Free Diver - William Trubridge

My mate is into this stuff and we had a yarn about how trippy it is. Wouldn't help to have divers at the bottom as they can't give him air (pressurization) or even escort him to the surface (would need to stop to decompress) if something goes wrong.

He is totally alone which just blows my mind. Especially when he hits the bottom, fuck he must have ice running through his veins.
-

just the mental application to what he does is beyond my comprehension.

On his way down, I wonder where he sees his bail point, cos it'd surely need to be about 40-50m mark, otherwise if you come unstuck any point after that, it could be fatal.
-

Hope you aren't hunting paua using scuba gear, it's illegal
-

don't think so, same rules for all.
-

think Maori can apply for customary rights via Iwi but not sure that allows them to use SCUBA, just allows them to take more than limits I believe, or out of season.

Yep, Maori can grab some more for hui etc with permission from the rights owner (iwi, hapu, Marae, other Maori governance organisation) but these need to be reported and can effect the following season's quota.

I wonder how many people think it operates the way MR previously did?
-

Can Maori still get Toheroas?

I remember when living in Invercargill and helping out the father-in-law (Well ex father in law) with his mowing and gardening business, and the number of shells you would see in composts was quite incredible, in particular one of the retirement homes :)
-
No, i meant he could grab the paua because he was free diving and the extra dive time and depth being handy for wrestling crays out of their hiding spots.

Pukunui is a reference to the childrens book character rather than my ethnicity or waist line. I was a tall skinny white guy when i signed up. That was 10 years ago and not so skinny now, so maybe the name is becoming more appropriate. At least im well over 6'2. -

He's certainly an incredible diver and well done for setting a new record but really really silly to get involved with these arseclowns http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11643643
