Nice to see something that is not a sequel or an existing franchise. He's turned this up to 11.
Gladiator meets DnD meets star wars with Nazis
I'm in
"I don't want no trouble"---obviously nobody in Star Wars ever watches Westerns.

I previously thought his greatest movie line was “you’re a big man but you’re out of shape and for me it’s a full time job” from Get Carter
that wasn't Caine's greatest line that was Sly's to Caine, I thought.
One of us is definitely having memory trouble! -
The sequel was "We Still Steal the Old Way" - not as good IMHO. Both are fun films, don't set out to be high art but have some great set-pieces.

Paul Schrader's Affliction (1997).
Hadn't seen it since it was originally released in NZ (1998 or 1999?). Absolutely devastating, and the performances were great. Sissy Spacek was maybe overlooked, but she was so good in this. A true shame that there has been no blu-ray release.
Nolte was overlooked for the Oscar for ... Roberto Benigni.
5/5

Loved it
4 out of 5
Couldn't get cute, would have given the game away

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Nazis, Mads Mikklesen, time travel, re-discovered tombs, Harrison Ford playing a Grumpy Old Man. What's not to like? Really enjoyed this - great popcorn movie. Only complaint was the Short Round sidekick character which really didn't work.
4.5 Dangerous Artifacts out of 5 Reincarnated Hitlers

Pitch Perfect 2.
Not seen 1, daughter watched, thought it would be shit so swerved. But I was tired last night so watched the sequel.
Laughed. My. Ass. Off. Honestly it’s really funny, so many stupid moments and good lines. Rebel Wilson is just the wrong side of annoying / funny but the script saves her.
4 split trousers out of 5 German techno groups.
Real sleeper this one for me

If you’re giving this such a great score then how do you rate the original trilogy ?

First 3 were great 5/5.
Crystal Skull stank a bit. 3.5/5.

Well, I'm interested in film and watch a lot of stuff by different directors etc, but you just can't beat a good popcorn movie.

Speaking of popcorn movies, finally watched Fast X. (Fast and the Furious 10) .
Actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Momoa actually has the personality to play a twisted villain. Fun, as long as not taken too seriously.. even if it is a part one movie. Story is always the same really
3 impossible stunts out of 5 infinite sequels -
Just seen Oppenheimer.
Engrossing film. Brilliant casting and acting, long without being boring, split timelines that tell the story in a non-confusing way and special effects that add to the story rather than take it over. A bit non Nolan-like. And Florence Pugh has a great pair.
And yet....and yet.... I can't quite make up my mind whether it's a truly great film or just a wee bit superficial and slick.
-
@Victor-Meldrew Not that I go to the cinema much these days, so moot I guess but your summation is pretty much in line with my pre-conceived viewpoint.
A great story, though maybe be a bit dull taking out all the explosions stuff add Nolan as a director, add a hot ticket actor as main man and then a who's who of formerly power punchers as supporting actors, what could go wrong?

That's the thing. The story is anything but dull, the story-telling is outstanding and the actors don't overwhelm the story - I found the explosions stuff was there to support the story above all.
The film made me think about the story being told and how it was being told. It was Nolan, but un-Nolan - if that makes sense.

Couple of trailers of movies I'm looking forward to. Hardly a review, but still...

Looks interesting
