A test vs SA at home is the perfect time to fast track him back into the team!

Given the numbner of times he's turned us down in the last 5 years I'm going to go out on a limb he'll instead just pocket his 200k a year from Warks & another 100k odd from others & carry on telling us to piss off...

Yeah true, no Morkel but Steyn is still in the team so he'd be best to stay in England.

If I was a selector the feeling would be extremely mutual. His career owes a lot to the fact that NZ has accepted appallingly low returns just so they can have "a spinner" in the team. Look, I'm not expecting Warnie or Murali but another Vettori would be extremely handy right about now.

Has anyone been watching this enough to9 tell me what speeds the NZ seamers have been reaching?

In Kane we trust - looks like he'll have to bat for 3 days and hope someone can stay in at the other end.

With the obvious exception of Amla this SA batting line up is either unproven or not particularly great ( of the guys with a decent number of matches Duminys record is ordinary for someone from SA and Du Plessis is good but not awe inspiring ) so disappointing to see them do what they did.

Nichols, this is your moment. Taylor, getting run out in a test is pretty unforgivable but you're otherwise awesome so I'll let it slide.

Have missed most of the coverage so far... any word on why we won the toss and bowled? Seems mad with the benefit of two days hindsight (and a few of the deliveries that I have seen keeping low already on the morning of Day 2)

Surely this is Guptils last test match? He is a great ODI player etc but can't transfer that skillset to test match. Let's start with someone new

Almost overlooked; Wagner 5/86 at an economy rate of 2.20. The longer he's playing at the top level the more he's stepping up. The reverse of Southee...?

I personally reckon that depends a lot of Nichol, if he doesn't get runs then Guppy to five and a new opener ( don't know his name but has been mentioned a few times ) could be the go.

I hear ya Donsteppa. He's got an awesome attitude and a big engine. Great to see him getting opportunities on pitches with a bit of life rather than playing the 4th seamer on dirt roads.
