Bluetooth headphones are wireless, so it's a bit of a gimmick really.

As an Account Manager for three different telecom dealerships over 10 years I'm ashamed how out of touch I am with the Telco industry ( or maybe subconsciously that is deliberate )

I though they did away with all the free phones on 24 months plans ?

My Samsung SIII is on it's last legs and I'm looking around, I'm on the $59 all you can eat plan which suits me down to the ground.

I have vivid memories of the rate plans back in the day, people would happily pay $350 a month for 750 anytime minues, my how things change......

@Hooroo be interesting to see how you find it. I think having to use wireless headphones will be a pain in the ass... mainly as people will forget to charge them.. and then not be able to use when they want to or for as long as they want to.
And if they use the lightning port for listening, they need an adaptor and then cannot charge their phone at the same time as listening to music.

Just don't see any upside for the consumer at all. They seem to just expect their fans to pay more for less.

Plugging headphones into the bottom of the phone via an adaptor seems like a pain in the ass. No thanks.

To be fair, I don't use headphones that often so it won't be an issue for me. The go wtih what you know was a sarcastic comment i.e. change nothing and still make billions - go with what you know

Apparently one of the drivers for the move away from the 3.5mm jack was they couldn't find a foolproof way of waterproofing the hole, whereas the lightning connector is a sealed unit. Theoretically.

I'm still on a 5 but I think I'll wait another year, nothing in this version I have to have.

@JC wife has a 5C so looking at people who are dropping their stocks of 6 and 6S for her replacement.

Can't use Lightning port for headphones and charging at same time, I assume?

I have a Galaxy Note and the better half has the iPhone 5C. I'll probably move her back to Galaxy (she previously had an S3) as she seems to complain about the iPhone a lot.

    Definitely sounds like some bullshit.

@NTA That's what @Baron-Silas-Greenback says, no reason to disbelieve it. From what I know if they'd gone to USB-C they would have been able to give us an adaptor that does both. But I don't know how the dimensions of the USB-C compare to the lightning, maybe it doesn't let them save 3.2 Angstroms in phone depth that apparently is important to the people who measure the depth of their phones (you know who you are 😉 ).

@Tim I'm conflicted re the waterproofing thing. Who are all these people who take underwater photos with their phone? I'm guessing nearly nobody. So what were really talking about is not so much waterproof phones as toilet proof phones. There seems to be no shortage of people who are so blasé about having spent a grand and a half on a phone they don't bother checking whether it's about to fall out of their jeans and down the can, which clearly is the manufacturer's fault 🙄 .

For me a smartphone is all about the apps. The ones I use run fine on my 5. When wireless charging comes around I may take the leap.

@JC For me it's the mechanical engineering argument. I can see no reason why the larger USB-C port would be more likely to be waterproof. Maybe they could argue that the headphone jack might be more likely to be bent out of shape.

Looking at the Apple store, the 6S in 64Gb is no longer listed (as expected) and the 32Gb is unavailable. So fork out for the 128Gb if you want.

In Australia at least, Kogan still has stocks of the standard iPhone 6, and for the relative bargain price of "Under $1k".

Asked the wife if she wants one. She'd like to think about it. Wonder how quick the last of the 6 line will get snapped up now the 7 is less than stupendously awesome.

Not that I was expecting it to be. Hard to get more than incremental innovation at this point until we decide a physical handset could be more easily done with a hoverbot or an implant or something.

The beauty of wireless headphones is they can now go flat while you charge your phone.

    Thoughts?

I like the idea of not having wired in headphones or the option to plug in if you wish.

I didn't see when it is being released in NZ but I am looking forward to upgrading as I have had my 6plus for a couple of years now.

Me too, time for an upgrade and sell the current phone. They hold their value well if you look after them.
