My bad -- Southlander. But point stands -- can't see he's played since 30th July (not counting game of three halves).

    Shagged?

You wonder at what point Akira Ioane will get the call up , not that there is any rush , none really

But you would think that one is a matter of when they think he is ready

And when it does happen , does he push someone out

That try that he got in the Super rugby final in 2015 would indicate he has a shitload of ball carrying ability. Where has this "no power" myth come from ?

True, once the fern labels someone as "can do that" or "can't do that" she's a pretty tough break to bounce back from.

I wouldn't say "no power" he just isn't "Kaino power" -to be fair not many are. I would put him more in the Read and Luatua mobile loosie category. Messam i would have as a hybrid between the two. Squire i would put in the Kaino category.

So basically i think he is behind Read and doesn't offer what they want from a bench 6 as much as Squire does. No idea why he hasn't been released to NPC. Maybe they want him in camp soaking up as much knowledge as possible.

Akira needs to be told the ABs have a no dickhead policy and to sort out his shit.

Again, self confessed non highlanders watcher but I wouldn't put Squire in the Kaino category quite yet although I might be judging him harsher than I should based on his 'do.

Just a squad member at this stage - no different to Lima or McKenzie (when he's there)

Will get his chances when Kaino needs a rest or gets injured.

Is someone going to tell Cane about this policy? He gives away more penalties for off the ball play (and was lucky not get pinged in the Argie test for that push) than Akira ever has.

Probably been playing a bit longer then Akira?

I thought the no DH rules was more for outside of rugby rather than DH's in the game. I mean Coles would have been long ago if that rung true

And Brodie, top head rubber after penalties.

@Unco Get him in the AB environment and peer pressure and the rest will take care of that.

To be fair, @Kirwan, Brodie and Sam are from the Chiefs. Right now, as long as Hansen doesn't see them emerging from the rucks with a stripper in tow, he's probably breathing a sigh of relief! 🙂

I don't see any reason why Akira needs to be in the ABs right now. I quite like the loose forward options we've been using and would like to see a bit more of them.

Reiko on the other hand might be worth an EOYT spot if we still have midfielders/wings still broken

Akira may have issues with the "better people" element - he quite often comes across as a bit of a dick on the field. Just needs to channel that competitive spirit a little better IMO.

@ACT-Crusader Because Akira is a stud and has more potential than Squire, Dixon and Todd. You can't teach the size, speed, skill and mongrel of this guy. If he is not on the EOYT I would be surprised.

I just hope Akira isn't just a Samoan version of Lauaki.. and can turn into the next Kaino.. (Kaino had the same speed before his injury)

@mimic Kaino also got in the AB's too young, and needed to do some growing up before he became the player that he still is today.

I don't know enough about the Akira Ioane situation, but from the above it does seem like there are parallels.

My impression is he is a physical beast, power , pace and ball skills , looks to have everything physically you could ask for in a 6/8

But no idea about the person or what is between the ears ,

the good thing is , in our current situation , there is no rush to bring him on too quickly , time is on our side ,

I have a feeling he may be the long term replacement for Read at 8 , in 3 or 4 years time he will be 24/25 , perfect
