@NTA That's what @Baron-Silas-Greenback says, no reason to disbelieve it. From what I know if they'd gone to USB-C they would have been able to give us an adaptor that does both. But I don't know how the dimensions of the USB-C compare to the lightning, maybe it doesn't let them save 3.2 Angstroms in phone depth that apparently is important to the people who measure the depth of their phones (you know who you are 😉 ).

@Tim I'm conflicted re the waterproofing thing. Who are all these people who take underwater photos with their phone? I'm guessing nearly nobody. So what were really talking about is not so much waterproof phones as toilet proof phones. There seems to be no shortage of people who are so blasé about having spent a grand and a half on a phone they don't bother checking whether it's about to fall out of their jeans and down the can, which clearly is the manufacturer's fault 🙄 .

For me a smartphone is all about the apps. The ones I use run fine on my 5. When wireless charging comes around I may take the leap.

@JC For me it's the mechanical engineering argument. I can see no reason why the larger USB-C port would be more likely to be waterproof. Maybe they could argue that the headphone jack might be more likely to be bent out of shape.

Looking at the Apple store, the 6S in 64Gb is no longer listed (as expected) and the 32Gb is unavailable. So fork out for the 128Gb if you want.

In Australia at least, Kogan still has stocks of the standard iPhone 6, and for the relative bargain price of "Under $1k".

Asked the wife if she wants one. She'd like to think about it. Wonder how quick the last of the 6 line will get snapped up now the 7 is less than stupendously awesome.

Not that I was expecting it to be. Hard to get more than incremental innovation at this point until we decide a physical handset could be more easily done with a hoverbot or an implant or something.

The beauty of wireless headphones is they can now go flat while you charge your phone.

    Thoughts?

I like the idea of not having wired in headphones or the option to plug in if you wish.

I didn't see when it is being released in NZ but I am looking forward to upgrading as I have had my 6plus for a couple of years now.

Me too, time for an upgrade and sell the current phone. They hold their value well if you look after them.

Good call! I hadn't thought about selling but mine is in good nick.

Good that the reset to default setting etc is pretty simple too.

There are alternatives of course. I've got a nice Sennheiser bluetooth headset (MM100), and although its bulky compared to earphones, the sound is pretty good, I can still hear what is going on around me, and the microphone on it is actually quite brilliant. I mostly use it for Netflix though, as my hands-free is done in the car for both calls and music.

There is another lot spruiking themselves as a solid alternative - think they're Australian?

@Kirwan we were messing around with Google Glass at work when they first released them. Look, its interesting, but ffs work out how to build it into a regular pair of glasses so I don't look like a complete tit.

Wearables has extended to watches. That's about it...

I've found the watch to be pretty useful, so I'm open to the wearables stuff.

I'm pretty excited about what "hearable" computing will bring around. I like the phone turning into a hub and have options on how to interact with it.

Ha, my lack of technical fern nous meant you'll get all the reputation votes that by right should be mine.

Gotta admit that woulda been a great post if I hadn't fucked it up completely.
