Saw a cheapo Netflix film called Bull. Made on a really tight budget (£500k I believe), with a bunch of good Brit character actors. It’s about some violent, very unpleasant villains, with one of them on a revenge spree after a double cross. Lots of flashbacks to flesh out the story. A bit of a weird and slightly annoying ending which doesn’t really gel, but overall worth a look. Not overly long either.

    Loved it

Were you a little disappointed by the ending?

    A tad

But so many films and tv shows peter out at the moment that it’s almost the norm

I really rate Neil Maskell though

Known for: Hijack, Utopia, Kill List

    Really good in Hijack recently

And excellent in Humans and Utopia

Yes, both him and David Hayman were very good in their roles.

    Harry Brown

Always good stumbling on a flick you have only seen once and that was years ago…..

I remember it came out about the same time as Gran Torino and has a reasonably similar story. No one beats Clint ( in one of his best roles which is saying something ) but by golly this must be up there with Michael Caines finest work.

I previously thought his greatest movie line was “you’re a big man but you’re out of shape and for me it’s a full time job” from Get Carter but it might well be what he utters 15 seconds into this clip….

Terrific supporting roles from three future GOT actors too. Well worth a watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it, I love a good vigilante flick !!!!

@Victor-Meldrew A who's who of British violent character actors. I found it quite entertaining. There was a sequel called We Still Steal the Old Way. Similar in vein (as you would expect) but not quite as rounded as the original. Still worth a look though.

Nice to see something that is not a sequel or an existing franchise. He's turned this up to 11.

Gladiator meets DnD meets star wars with Nazis

    I'm in

"I don't want no trouble"---obviously nobody in Star Wars ever watches Westerns.

that wasn't Caine's greatest line that was Sly's to Caine, I thought.

The sequel was "We Still Steal the Old Way" - not as good IMHO. Both are fun films, don't set out to be high art but have some great set-pieces.

    New Michael Mann:

In Ferrari, Adam Driver Is a Force of Steel and Death

In Ferrari, Adam Driver Is a Force of Steel and Death

Michael Mann’s long-gestating movie is elegant and restless, with a sense throughout that something horrific is lurking around each corner.

    Paul Schrader's Affliction (1997).

Hadn't seen it since it was originally released in NZ (1998 or 1999?). Absolutely devastating, and the performances were great. Sissy Spacek was maybe overlooked, but she was so good in this. A true shame that there has been no blu-ray release.

Nolte was overlooked for the Oscar for ... Roberto Benigni.

    5/5
