Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning: So I checked the RT and IMDB ratings of this and am absolutely flabbergasted that it is rated fairly highly. I think the final two Reckoning movies have been a pretty average end to a a pretty good series of movies.

Every action sequence in this film goes for at least double the length of time it needs to. It's a nearly three our movie that should only be two at most.

Oddly enough, despite the fact I didn't enjoy it, it was the closest to the type of MI film I've always wanted to see more akin to the TV show, where the team is not rogue.

They way overdid the Ethan is a real man struggling to do stuff. I mean a little bit of realism is fine, but not when you've got a guy swimming in the arctic multiple time and not dying.

The story is fucking silly, especially the big bad, it would even seem silly in the Marvel universe.

Yeah, me too, but conversely it also set the template for the series of them operating as a rogue group.

Daniel Craigs worst.

The baddies were pretty shite I must admit and the plot was stupid, something about a water supply or something.....yawn.

Nice women and DC was decent though !

What was interesting for me was how Bond came to treat Quarrel as a friend and comrade (which he is in the books) and wanted to kill Dr No in revenge for Quarrel's death.

Robert Shaw plays the best Bond henchman ever in FRWL. He spawned lots of inferior Blond imitators, the movie went downhill after he died ( in one of the best punch ups in movie history )

They were still getting the formula right, it was a very good movie.

Worth mentioning I think Goldfinger is fucken dated and overrated. Still entertaining but no where near as good as Bond fans make out. Connery was at his best in Thunderball and You only live twice. Diamonds are Forever was weirdly paced but ( sometimes unintentionally ) hilarious and a great watch.

Watched FRWL last night. Outstanding and surprisingly fresh for a 60+ yr old film.

Agree on Robert Ryan - menacing, psychotic, cruel and scary. Sanchez in Licence to KIll springs to mind as one of the better villians too.

FRWL was a well crafted film, without the over reliance on gadgets. Connery was cool, Shaw was an awesome villain and a really good supporting cast - the girl, the friend and of course Rosa Kleb. The only jarring note was Connery wearing a selection of crap hats. I mean, why does he have to wear a yacht captain’s cap just because he’s nicked a boat?

Shaw. But yes he was terrific. Ruthless as fuck. Still technically a henchman rather than a lead villain though. Best lead villain for me was Christopher Lee playing Scaramanga in the slightly silly Man with the Golden Gun. Fun movie but he deserved better overall.

Yeah last time I watched FRWL was with the folks and my boys a few years back. We all remarked how people made a real effort to dress nicely back in the day.
