Currently only 3 shots off the lead with 4 holes to complete.

Some of his remarkable shots being pulled off. A rusty 14th had him lose a shot but currently 3 under

yep it is good to see him back...he has had a long and troubled rough patch (obviously some self inflicted)

Looking at his swing it has changed, obviously with the intention of taking some of the stress off his back, seems to be getting some decent length off the tee still though, so that's great news for him, and I think if he gets back to his best, for golf!

Imagine if the final 2 groups in the Masters next year was Speith, Johnson, Day & Woods!

@hooroo reckon he'll be happy just to be playing uninterrupted at the Masters

              The power of Tiger ...

Saw this thread ... realized it was live, immediately turned over, saw he had finished, immediately turned back.

Doing my best to think of any other sports star I would do that for ... Conor McGregor maybe

Must be others, but it shows what a grip he has on the game

                This!

I have been watching live at work just because. Most I would do would be having the leaderboard updates running behind the scenes.

Anyone that has come to my office has paused to watch.

He is a money fountain for golf

Sooo good to have him back. He did well today even though he struggled on the par5s

Also good round from Ryan fox in Aus PGA. Couple over yesterday but -5 today and back in it. Has Steve Williams on his bag for the tournament too

That's the way I felt when Lomu played for Harbour. Clearly no longer up to it physically, but I still watched every minute, just in case.

This is like when Jordan played for the Wizards. He wasn't at his best but he still dropped 51 in a game.

Tiger is the Jordan, Ali, Bolt, Federer of golf. You want him to succeed even if you don't like him. You want him to add to his legend. I know Nicklaus is the all time major winner but Tiger is the best golfer I have ever seen.

Outright lead after the most spectacular par 5 you'll ever see. 600 yards ... 350 drive ... 250 fairway wood up high which drops 15ft from pin and Nails the putt. He is the one.

Side note, miss 3 just called Jordan spieth 'John Beef' ... that's gonna stick

Golf has done superbly well in his absence with the likes of Scott, Day, Speith, Johnson, McIlroy, Fowler, Watson et al, but his presence on the golf course is even better!

Holy shit. Was not expecting this come back to be significantly different to the earlier false starts. But Tiger is looking sharp as fuck. Given the stress golf puts on your back and the number of surgeries he's had, it's crazy he's going so well. Can't be easy to reinvent that much of your game, while dealing with the odd personal issue! 🙂

Hope the health side of things isn't an issue and we get to see a genuine return to the top.

                                            Get in the hole!!!

Someone had to win the tournaments that he was no longer winning.

Thing that is usually the case with golf is that every dog has his day. Occasionally they even have a few days in a row, but the same guy that wins a tourney one week will end up 63rd the next.

Tiger was different, he was a dominant player to the extent that it was expected he would win every time, even batting away whatever challenger was having a good day that time around.

I haven't seen anyone else take up that level of consistency.

@crucial but there is the argument that there are more players capable of winning each week...Speith and Johnson are outstanding players, not yet been at the top as long though.

Not to mention similar arguments have been made of Nicklaus' era re his dominance in an era when so many were capable.

Comparing eras is never fair to anyone.

I just hope Tiger is back for a sustained period and his head is in the game.

Tiger was a bit shit yesterday on a very tough day (think only Hoffman was under par) but wow hes been good today. Currently -5 for the day and -9 overall going down the 18th.

Round of the day (and tournament) though looking Ricky Fowlers. Currently with a 3 shot lead at -17. Birdied the first 7 holes to go out in 28. Could be a low low round here

He will always get more coverage when not contending than Mr Average Tour guy but making every tournament all about Tiger every time he plays just turns the sport into a sideshow. Golf media has to show some self-control and ignore him if he is down the field like they ignore all the other non-contenders.

The coverage rates now because Tiger makes mainstream news and people tune in who have only a passing interest in golf.

Maybe the next freak of golf won't come along for 20 years, at the moment it is hard to be sure that any of the current crop will get to 10 majors given the way they are being shared about. So is every tournament going to be about Tiger until he goes on the Champions Tour? He may well be competitive for years as he is bloody good at golf and not an old man yet but he may be just one of the pack ranked low in the top 50 - big Phil is ranked 35 at age 47.

Or it could be a fizzer ... it isn't a birdie fest which means a lot can still happen. Scoring so far today indicates Tiger could well win with a par round and anything under par will be decisive.
