Alright lads, enough talk about the ABs, the final round robin game for the Black Caps is tonight against the under pressure England, who simply must win or they'll be relying on the Bangles upsetting Pakistan. Fingers crossed they crumble in true English fashion...

A win for the good guys is massively important for two reasons:

    1. obviously it guarantees us a place in the semis
    2. losing three on the trot leading into the semi puts us in a bad state of mind. Cricket is a mental game and if we are down on confidence we'll get eaten alive.

Latest news is that Lockie has a tight groin so didn't train yesterday, and will be assessed in the morning. Given our lack of wicket takers, he along with Boult are absolutely bloody critical to our chances.

Will be interesting to see who is in the 11. Have we given up on Munro so now hoping against hope that Nicholls comes good with limited game time? Do we retain Ish, take Henry who can't bowl at the death, or throw the ball to Southee and hope? Our selections have left a lot to be desired to date...

Anyway, bring it on you pommy bastards!!

After what they did to the Indians it would appear they are made of tougher stuff than your average pommy union player. I felt like the Indian bowlers weren't at maximum intensity in their opening spell and the poms made them pay. We will not want for effort but will the execution be good? Boult has been quiet in his opening spells too, and I think Henry is being found out for the pie chucker he is by the better teams. Add to that the fact that the English batting line-up has been better performed than ours, and we haven't actually beaten anyone of real consequence and I can't see us winning this one. Sadly

    Did we peak at all?

    Squeaked past Bangles, SA, WI
    Beat Afghanistan comfortably
Got free point off India due to game abandoned
    Spanked by Pakistan and Oz

When you lay it out like that, it doesn't look so good....

    We've got this.

Chuck the drinks to Munro, throw the ball to Southee, send Henry on an errand to Land's End, and set several alarms next to Latham's kit bag.

    Easy.

I just don't have a good feeling about this. I'm giving us a 30% chance.
But if our openers score runs.... but I don't see that happening. Might as well open with Kane.

    Ferguson is a huge loss.

Must admit to feeling the air in my world cup tricycle leaking a but of late.

Resigned myself to a team with a few limitations (surprise surprise nz cricket), mathematically limping into the semis and praying for a Bradbury-esque heist (there's a transporters pun in there if you're sad enough to know bats😒) or just another semi that looks good on paper...again.

Now lockies out and the tyres just lost a bit more

So Carrn you Blackcaps and the mark of Kane - turn me into a doubting Thomas fool once more, and play out your skin thus fulfilling our duty to world cricket and putting a nail in the Pom coffin as penance for their years and years of cricket slavery, before the benevolent and generous BCCI took over.

Would be a good one to win

We've been keeping Southee's powder dry for this exact match. 7-for coming up.

Also, with any luck Boult's hatrick has shot him right back into form and he rips the English a new one.

Couldn't one of the WAGs given Lockie some 'treatment'?

That's probably what caused the injury in the first place!

Wassim you say, well that's great just as long as he's more discreet than the Aussies were.

I don't mind the tactic. These two like the pace so taking that away could frustrate them...

....provided Santner doesn't dish up wide full tosses....

i reckon it's a horrible tactic. we've got boult. we've got southee who is a swing-only bowler, and henry who is a new ball only bowler. those blokes at least should have had a couple before this.

@reprobate OK yeah it's swinging so let's ditch the Santner experiment immediately.

I agree, waste of an over. We need to swing it and take wickets. It won't swing as much later.

The way the first few overs are going, they'll probably save all Henry's overs for the death too...

Seriously? On another day that first ball cleans up Roy and we get a perfect start. Santner bowling the first was a great call.

Boult and Southee now need to make the most of the movement. A bit too soon for all the defeatist '400 plus' moans.
