A big fluorescent one. I'm aiming to be immunised and resume business travel by the end of July.
Headlines:
"Local pubs devastated by news from rugby forum".
"Chinese pubs expecting boost in sales from end of July".Kidding of course, but that must be good news for you.

Overseas business travel? Surely not???
The bit we are still in the dark on is what level of herd immunity are we aiming for before we open the community up to Covid transmission, and what level of infection are we prepared to accept at any point in time. Is it [x]% of the population vaccinated (inc all high risk folk) then we open borders and allow [y] cases at any point, or is it related to hospital beds or ICU beds? Or is it more nuanced and related to clusters and strains in particular areas?
I wonder where the political positioning will be, and what the general NZ/Aus population is prepared to accept. In NZ especially its a big statement to stand up and say that we are giving up the hard fought position of elimination.
I also know a lot of people who don't want to get vaccinated (and their are not anti-vax ppl generally), I wonder what level we will get to. Is 50-60% enough?
-
@booboo quite a mix. Some say they'll get it, but don't want it early. Some think it's all been too rushed. Some ask what's the point, what's it going to change for them since they can't travel anyway. Others say they'll get it, but won't vaccinate their kids. Some have no fear of catching Covid at all.
I think me and the Mrs will get it when available, which will be late as we are in Phase 2b, one of the last cohorts. Have no idea when that will actually be

Head of Medicine at Oxford Uni thinks 70%, give or take.

Wasn't sure where to put this, here, "UK", or "Conspiracy Theories".
Decided here as, although it is essentially from the UK perspective, it is a universal issue.
It's a discussion on lockdown scepticism and various conspiracy type mindsets justifying said opinions.
Quite long.

Best line in the article:

Great article thanks for sharing.
Conspiracy theories being a product of despair at the real situation is an excellent conclusion

You raise really good points.
Any commentators picking up on these?

would be a game changer if it works?
-
@taniwharugby problem.
Nz Covid free .... so don’t you need some positive tests to prove it works?
-
@MajorRage not for those coming in and out of NZ? But yes they will need someone to get a postive result from the nose swab and also the saliva to show it works.
Plus, assume it is in collaboration with other overseas agencies?

interesting i read an opinion today that because NZ won't be rolling out vaccinations until September, they will actually be closed to international travel longer than someone like the UK, which makes absolutely zero fucking sense really
sort your shit NZ, i have booked a beach house at the Mount for next Christmas

I think it's just a vaccine scale up and supply thing, the bigger/richer/more Covid-fucked-up nations are ahead of us in the queue to an extent.

just get it fucking sorted!

Hipkins told RNZ's Morning Report programme it was hoped the first batches of vaccines would arrive by March, but countries being ravaged by the virus would be prioritised by the manufacturers.

Recently, a video showing a village official in Gaocheng district in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei Province tying an elderly villager to a tree after he insisted on going out to buy cigarettes during a lockdown, has ignited outrage on Chinese social media.
