Coronavirus - Overall

@Rembrandt Singapore are apparently not messing around. A mate had colleagues cancel a conference trip because the Singapore government have put a stop to any significant public gatherings
Yeah its a bit scary looking
I imagine the panic would be worse than the disease, haven't heard of any shortages yet. I'd be concerned about it slipping over to Johor Bahru, going across that border and you see a significant drop-off in available wealth to deal with something like this.

I'm not entirely surprised I suppose. Singapore is one of the major Asian business hubs. My conference in April is looking a little shaky right now

My mate is a physician, he says the Spanish flu is still King
Having said that, it's still a massive health event purely looking at the infection numbers, he reckons the mass lock down in China may go some way to helping stop the disease. But if it really blows up everything stops. In China much of industry has stopped and it is having flow on effects all over the world. Interesting times

@taniwharugby see, I think those sorts of articles are dangerous and just fear mongering for profit.

“A map created by Southampton University researchers shows how 60,000 out of a total of five million people who have traveled out of Wuhan since the beginning of the outbreak and before the city was fully locked down have crisscrossed the globe.”
Looks bloody. Hell, it looks like the elevator scene in The Shining ffs!

Just got invited to lunch at a yum char place and while immediately keen I thought best to politely decline
Why?
Got to be sweet to be an Asian person travelling at the moment, discreetly cough a few times at the check in queue and instant upgrade to first class and three seats to yourself.
@canefan get amongst it mate.

With a supposed incubation period of up to 24 days I guess we'll know soon enough as to whether the more sensational claims are based in reality or not. My buddy is now back in Oz, hoping to have a chat soon to see what the inside goss is from the big C.

@canefan My brothers back in NZ for a few days. In the last 5 weeks he's visited NZ, Oz, Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi, Finland, Germany , UK. Sat on a flight from Dubai to Sin next to a Chinese guy who coughed over him for 10 hours. Next day he had a fever and was coughing himself. He's still coughing. He's been to Europe and now NZ with the cough. No one has asked him about it. He may have had corona - he doesn't know. All he knows is he was poleaxed by a bad flu.
Not only did he sit next to a man that was clearly ill, someone in his office has been confirmed with CV.
Meanwhile everyone entering his office building has their temperature checked as they come into the lobby and again every two hours but somehow a guy who was feverish and coughing has had no tests done on him.

Ummm yeah, probably worth him checking himself out...I wouldn't be reliant on 'officials' to do their job properly.
I had flu like symptoms after my recent NZ holiday, went to the doctors in Melbourne just-in-case when in a normal situation I wouldn't bother. Got asked 3 times in the appointment if I'd been to China on my holiday, after 3 negatives he diagnosed me with some sort of viral infection and recommended bedrest. Clearly they are on reasonably high alert.
Bit of talk at the moment about it potentially coming from a lab in Wuhan..surely impossible to know for sure. Does have a chernobyl type feel to it.

That came out ages ago. Of course China denies it caused the outbreak, but the media suggest there is a huge biochemical weapons lab in Wuhan

Yeah I think zerohedge got banned off of twitter for saying it. Now other outlets seem to be picking it up..looking forward to their bannings too...

They got banned for blaming a particular doctor and placing his contact info in the story
