Oh good sounds like a great idea with everything the way it is. Labour MP saying the UK should put a halt to the small arms trading with the USA which earns the UK billions and billions of pounds.
True I'm sure that is a massive issue for black lives in the states and hey why would the UK need billions of pounds?
The sheer fuckwittery of some of these people jumping on the latest protest bandwagon is truly awesome. Some stupid shouty woman claiming she is braving the coronavirus because the issue is more important than her life. What about everyone else’s life you might contaminate bitch?

I understand police removed the British lads protecting the Winston Churchill memorial to placate the rioters.
Seems to sum up the current state of Britain.
You understand wrong. Many things happened yesterday but this wasn't one of them.
Many things happened over the weekend - all of which would have happened regardless of the times we are in. Brexit, Covid should be the story of the moment, but of course, in Britain, there is always something else for people to get pissed off about.
Lots of commentators taking their own view on things, of which most are providing on very small snippets of video / information. BBC is taking an absolute pounding at the moment for this tweet
I can see both sides. There were huge protests yesterday all over the country. Even in my town, there was one. It went through smoothly, no issues. This is what happened in most of the country. It's not an overestimate to say that 99% of the protestors were of the right spirit.
However of course, that 1% is getting all the coverage. And rightly so. Ultimately, the police showed very little backbone over the weekend, which is what @Rembrandt is getting at. And that is what is getting peoples backs up. However, I think it's super important at the moment to try and show some restraint. It's a pretty big, and bad, situation at the moment and any fanning of the flames could well cause things to explode. I haven't read one single statement over the weekend about excessive police force. Not one. The government, although condemning many things, and have never once talked about losing the right to protest. Thats a pretty big step. The police, by and large have been bystanders and have allowed perhaps a little more leeway than most of us are comfortable with. But remember this started about because of excessive police force. The MET are perhaps demonstrating that this problem isn't here.
Ultimately, the people that have come out of this looking the worst are those protestors who tried to cause riots. And that's exactly as it should be.
Oh, and Anthony Joshua. But that is perhaps for another post.

Anthony Joshua - so here is a comment which I suspect has gone viral over here ... al
Good old Anthony Joshua. Takes a bit payday from Saudi Arabia, a country who kill homosexuals, treat woman like shit and see blacks as second class citizens. Then turns up in Watford whilst Cov-19 pandemic is going on preaching about equality.
-
Dear Labour supporters,
Any hope of Starmer leading you out of the wilderness can be parked.
Exhibit A
'In a museum' ffs
-
@MiketheSnow I can't really see an issue. Why the umbrage with the museum comment?

Meanwhile John Barnes was talking a lot of sense on Sophy Ridge:

I concur, I thought Starmer came out of that quite well. I also think that a museum is probably the right place for the statue. It is not something that we should hide away and pretend that slavery never happened. It is a part of our heritage, for both right and wrong, and should not be whitewashed.

@Bones said in British Politics:
@pakman huh...I feel like he didn't really say a heck of a lot.
You probably needed to see whole interview. In a nutshell, much that is protested about is superficial, and unlikely to get to root of problem. Overt racism is less of an issue than institutionalised central city disadvantge.

Hate it when I agree with lefties.
Agree with Bones here MikeySnow what's the issue with the museum? Right place for relics of history I'd have thunked.

Call me rasist if you must but tell me what was he talking about?
What is it that he is experiencing that is racist that I should stop?
Tell me and I'll try and change.

If he'd continued and said something similar to what Cato posted
"I also think that a museum is probably the right place for the statue. It is not something that we should hide away and pretend that slavery never happened. It is a part of our heritage, for both right and wrong, and should not be whitewashed."
But he didn't.
Very few politicians have learned that unless you explicitly say something, whatever you say - or sometimes don't say - can be misconstrued and manipulated to bite you in the arse.
As Boris et al have found out during the pandemic you cannot leave things open for interpretation using good old common sense.
Clear, concise, straight talk leaving no opportunity for skullduggery.
And unless it has some magnificent artistic significance, then take a photo and melt it down.
But absolutely put it in its correct place and vilify it.

@MiketheSnow yeah true - that guy should try watching some courtroom battles so he can get a good hold on that kinda stuff. He's way out of his depth....
Mike, did you understand what he meant? I'm willing to bet you and 90% of other people can understand what he was implying and don't need it spelled out to them - and don't need people saying it needs to be spelled out. If people want to try and pretend it's dastardly (like the Stay Alert moaners) then so be it, but we all know what it means really, so just will ignore them.

Yes I did. As I suspect everyone on here did.
But we are not representative of the Great British public.
If there's ambiguity some will exploit it, and lots will not understand it.

Yeah see that's not the impression I get - I think lots that do understand will intentionally pretend they don't and/or point out that it could be misunderstood by the "thickos". But it's not.
It's clear what he meant, if some want to misconstrue it, they're going to no matter what and can be deservedly ignored. We don't have to cater for an imaginary "thicko" group.
