Saw a lot of comment online that there were vigils in other places but the police there stayed back and everyone behaved. Met police have some real issues, especially when you see how they handled recent sports victory gatherings.
What sports victory gatherings?

Rangers?
At a guess. Didn't pay much attention as a)It's football and b) its Scottish football.

Ah. Should have read it more carefully.

The Met were fucked either way going into this.
They had to enforce the UK Covid gather rules, but then they also had to appease right to protest rules. So I sort of had sympathy with them. Especially knowing that they are the enemy right now, because that one psycho is very reflective of not only all males as a whole, but also the entire UK police force.
However, the fact that the Met somehow managed to single handedly somehow make it much worse for them is actually quite impressive. It's what I call doing a Woodgate.
(Woodgate signed for Real Madrid for an over-valued fee & then spent the next year or so injured. Then when he finally made his debut, he scored an own goal and got red carded).

Khan pointing the finger at the Met Commissioner, Cressida Dick.
Khan blaming someone else? Colour me surprised.

Racist. You had to bring colour into it somehow.

Great analogy.
It's true that the Met were in a difficult spot and the judgement didn't help (by all accounts it was pretty much "go away and sort it out sensibly between you"). But from the footage seen it was an incredible over-reaction, especially when set against the way the BLM protests have been policed recently. They have well and truly fucked this one up and in truth there is no excuse.

@catogrande Cressida has to go 'm afraid. For the greater good of all. If she is allowed to stay then it prove that their reaction was fine.

Interesting snap poll. Possibly divergent opinions between inner-M25 and rest of country?

There's a yougov poll going around too showing that younger people are more in favour of demonstrations too. Which really surprised me given that covid is predominantly affecting younger people .....
