Labour result there is just as big news.
Shows Tory voters can still not vote Labour.
Can’t think why.
Yeah that's what I thought, Lib Dems beat them by 15k.

Because the Government haven’t learned a fucking thing.
Under promise and over deliver
It’s not hard
They’ve set their own bar too high and the fallout from the inevitable failure is theirs and theirs alone.
Underpromising means not getting a chance to deliver because elections are not usually won by underpromising.
If it’s an election cycle then fair enough
Labour offers no threat to the Conservative governance so the Tories would have been better placed now and for the future by aiming for half of what they we’re proposing and delivering three quarters of it
That is a successful booster programme
Well you say that. But if Starmer continues to purge the far left in party, they'll be getting my vote next time around. Polls suggest many think the same.
Honest cannot disagree.....its not like my taxes could be any higher at this point.

Tories hammered in North Shropshire. Lib Dem victory and Labour second. Was a safe Tory seat for 200 years and solid Leave in 2016.
Boris is toast.
One helluva swing against the Conservatives. Local factors and the downfall of previous North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson played a role, but national factors did even more. The walls are closing in on Johnson that is for sure.

Aaaah. I don’t know so much mate. Certainly there is a backlash about the way things have been handled and rightly so, but this is not a vote FOR anything, it’s a vote against Boris. It becomes important if there is a coherent alternative. Starmer and that shit show? Probably not, as shown by the reluctance to really make a statement. The Lib Dem’s and, oh now you’re going to have to remind me who the current nebbish is? Nope. It’s a major shot across the bows but atm there is no alternative. As to the long term? Who cares? Sure it’s a shot across the bows but they haven’t magically rustled up new voters.
They’ve just shuffled the pack.
Hence some Labour voters and some Tory voters joining with Lib Dem voters to get the Tories out.
What’s most worrying about this result is Labour calling it a victory

Can't see for the life of me how Boris can survive this latest scandal.
Rayner is walking all over him with ease at the moment.
Yeah he really should be gone after this and it’s a stupid thing to get shitcanned for -an outdoor drinks party ffs. But it is the lying and the hypocrisy that will likely do for him. If the Tories had a truly viable trusted alternative, I think the knives would have already been sharpened.

@tewaio said in British Politics:
He's apologised for it, so he's now screwed based on how politics seems to work.
Did you watch it? It was rather predictable how it went down.
The glaring thing for me is the complete lack of support he had behind him.
After 4 years I still fail to see what the point of Blackford is other than simply to ask the PM to resign. I've never seen him any anything different. Literally offers no argument.
-
His excuse that he didn't know it was a party just shows that he has learned nothing over the last year and a half since Castle Barnard and thinks that the public will swallow any old bollocks.
He needs to go now.
