Lets keep the weirdness to one thread. Apparently people fall for these because they get some sense of belonging when they sign up to them and other supporters usually welcome them with open arms because if someone else buys into their particular brand of bullshit they feel more secure in their weird ideas.

David Icke was a personal favourite, although he was proven right he said he for years that the bbc had a number of celebrities who were pedophiles and were protected by the establishment. The juries still out on whether or not he was right about the world being run by shape shifting reptilian aliens that live under the north pole. http://www.davidicke.com/

A more recent favourite is the idea that the planes used on 9/11 were actually holograms. https://followingworldchange.wordpress.com/2014/06/21/911-planes-were-holographic-projections/

Anyone got another others they want to share?

'The Titanic never sank'. i.e. why I'm so cynical about all conspiracy theories. People believe that what shouldn't happen, couldn't happen.

And then invent all sorts of complicated nonsense to justify themselves. .

Not exactly the same one, but a very similar conspiracy theory tracking same territory is the September Clues theory that posits the whole thing was an elaborate coordinated media psy-op hoax where no planes were hijacked nor flew into buildings, and says that what live witnesses observed were missiles, or more likely that these "witnesses" were in-fact government agents and co-conspirators, and that what TV audiences saw was basically Photoshop. It's crazy-crazy stuff, but the detailed photo analyses will get your head spinning like the David Hemmings character in "Blow Up." Batshit insane, yet hypnotic and entrancing.

I quite like the one suggesting that the Anglin brothers survived the Escape from Alcatraz in 1962. A photo was unearthed recently of them taken in the 1970s in South America. Writing this on a tablet so can't link a story.......

All things considered does anyone reckon they lived ? I think it's not impossible however unlikely. Having been to Alcatraz I can confirm it is a fucken chilling place, going there on a misty day sure helped add to the atmosphere.

I think they shut it down cos it was more than three times as expensive per head as any other prison in America. I'm no great swimmer but having a look at the distance I'd back myself to make it. Of course this is not taking into account the Sharks, freezing cold ( even in summer when they did it ) and the currents which are apparently very tough to negotiate.

(Funnily enough, the Warden in the Eastwood pic is none other than The Prisoner himself, Patrick McGoohan.) And they didn't float to the closer San Fran bay shoreline but instead went a farther distance to an island in the entirely different direction. (Allegedly.)

All things considered does anyone reckon they lived ? I think it's not impossible however unlikely. Having been to Alcatraz I can confirm it is a fucken chilling place, going there on a misty day sure helped add to the atmosphere.

That's them. Fucken awesome plan to be fair, none of them were violent criminals, the Anglins robbed banks using a fake gun apparently but because all were serial escapists they were sent to 'The Rock'.

Frank Morris ( the Eastwood character ) had an IQ in the top 3% but some say that the 4th bloke ( who was a bit wimpy in the film ) was the actual mastermind behind it.

It's very unlikely they did make it, after all they were career criminals and so woulda been almost certain to offend again and get caught.

Not sure how to explain this "conspiracy theory".. essentially this guy is the biggest nut job I've ever come across in NZ. I'm actually amazed he's not in the looney bin, scariest bit is he's got people following him.

First popped up on my radar when I saw on the news about the bunch of guys that stormed into that office in Auckland and kicked the staff out then tried to claim it back etc. Made my blood boil and wrongly assumed it was some sort of Maori land claim... Then my mate who's a cop pointed me in the direction of his youtube channel.. and holy sh*tballs. :idiot2:

I don't even know how to explain who or what he thinks he is. Have heard him refer to himself as the king of england, he thinks he owns pretty much 7/8ths of land under the english empire, that the british empire owe him trillions of pounds (that he's getting) and that he's off to put the queen and obama in gallows.

This guy is the best example of crazy I've ever seen. The saying 'the thing about crazy people is that they don't know they're crazy' couldn't apply to anyone better than this loon.

However I'm secretly impressed by his rambling youtube videos where he talks for an hour - on god knows what but he doesn't pause or have to think about names or places they just seem to flow from within his brain - I have no idea what's going on in there but something ain't wired right!!

See -- allegedly, so the theory goes cough and this is a doozy -- Obama is an American alright, born & bred in America, but not to that Kenyan father. The alleged father, the goatherder from Kenya, was a stooge, who participated in his role in a cover-up to acquire a Green Card. Barry's real father was an infamous communist pornographer Frank Marshall Davis who was already married with five kids by the time he knocked up Barry's teenage mom, and for good measure, those nude photos of Barry's mum that were sold & published in underground men's magazines, she was a couple months pregnant with Barry when those shots were taken by his father. I'm not saying I believe this stuff, I'm just saying it's one of my more fave recent conspiracy theories and it's at least as believable as most of the WWE programming I watch ("Screwjob," Owen's death, Benoit, etc., which is to say, tiny little bits of it are kinda convincing!).

It could change it from 'we were here first' to 'we were here before you'.

Ships of european origin sailing uncharted (to them) waters and going with the currents and winds seem to have regularly wrecked along the WA coast way before our known european visits. It is hardly beyond belief that some of them made ground as far as NZ and survived for a short period. Long enough to plant trees they had anyway.

One of the claims is about DoC cutting down numerous very old Oak Trees up north to destroy evidence of pre-dated occupation. Doh, DoC cut them down to re-establish native trees and if the stumps are still there on public land, take a walk and count the growth rings dumb asses.

The photos on the page won't appear in my browser but they supposedly provide evidence of Oak Trees that are bigger than expected. Given that some varieties of Oak are very fast growing and that Oaks thrive in well drained acid soil (ie volcanic) and that theory gets shot down fast. I have seen these claims years ago and they drew my interest because of a connection. The trees they refer to around Drury were actually planted by the Runciman family. Capt James Runciman of that family also planted many of the trees that have grown so big in Cambridge as the town was established from being a fort.

We had a number of oaks on the farm grown from the same 'stock' and can attest to the speed of growth being quite fast.
