Another Legend gone
Would love to have seen Will Smith try to slap Jimmy
-
I haven’t read any obits yet, but do recall from several documentaries about filming of The Godfather how the FBI was always investigating Jimmy ‘cos of his legit friendships with wiseguys who admired him.

@MN5 He got into acting while serving time in Sing sing for a host of crimes - so yeah the Soprano's was probably a docu-drama for him.
Yep googled him as you do and he had a pretty colourful life by the sounds of things.
De Niro, Pesci and Pacino are obviously gifted actors who can play the mob hard man very well but sometimes the real thing is even better !
-
Another real life hard man is Dale Dye. Often found playing military themed roles, most notably as Colonel Sink in Band of Brothers, and as an advisor to military films, the guy is a real life Vietnam war marine hero
Jack Palance was of that ilk too. An ex pro boxer and decorated war hero.
-
Not a hard man but David Niven signed up as soon as WWII was declared and ended up as a captain in the Commando's. Le took part in the Normandy landings and ended the war as a lieutenant Colonel. He'd been a serving officer before moving into acting.
Similarly Jimmy Stewart had an active military career flying bombing missions over Germany

Niven received the highest military award a non-American can receive IIRC, and famously refused to talk about his service until he was near death. Turns out he was one of the first to enter places like the concentration camps and saw he worst of the atrocities which really haunted him for the rest of his life.
