Dame Susan stirring up racial disharmony again....I never knew European kids never got abused. How entitled and ignorant of me.

yeah apparently it is ok for a Maori kid to call my son 'white boy' and a 'white cnut' every day at school, but as soon as my son uses the word brown in a response, he is racist!

That's the world we live in today. You hear idiots say "black people cannot be racist because they don't have the "power" to be racist". Or some other nonsensical bullshit to justify it.

My better half (who is black) constantly says by far the most racist people in the world today are black people against whites. Especially in places like the States where movements like BLM are completely normalised. It's sad and just takes us backwards when we normalise racist behaviour like that because of past injustices.

@MN5 Dame Susan is a fucking terrible race relations commissioner. The way she grandstands...she is so unqualified for the position it's ridiculous.

No one really know exactly what was said at that Waiheke party, but the way she went after Sir Peter Leitch was disgusting.

This is not specifically directed at you and I am prepared for the "leftard" backlash and maori apologist responses.

Has your boy considered trying to break down the aminosity, the hand of frieendship as they say? The maori kid is likely to have a cnut for a dad/role model and is probably not mixing with other cultures. Racism is learnt and one of the ways to reverse this is to create empathy with other cultures. I know its not your boys responsibility but it could start with him

I don't think that is unreasonable. Without a doubt the boy will have learnt that behaviour from care givers or other people in his life. That's the part I am sad about - that it is normalised to the point that the boy thinks it's OK and nobody is likely to call him or his family out on it.

A leftard response would have been to claim that Maori cannot be racist and that TR's boy needs to check his white privilege.

@dK this boy is from a good stable family, however the issues with this kid extended to physical bullying this week too (they were in same class 2 years ago at primary, and they never had issues)

Despite being much bigger than my son, and my son being terrified of him following threats to beat him up after school, it is because of my son's racist remark that he is bullying him, and he promised if my son stops being mean to him, he'll stop picking on him...as my son said to the principal, why would I antagonize him?

That sucks your son has to put up with that. The principal supportive? They bring in the bully's parents?

That's the part that has annoyed me in the past with bullying in schools. They make it the victims problem, and get the victim help etc.

What they should do is tell the victim this has nothing to do with them, and that they will work with the bully and his/her family to ensure they know what they are doing is wrong. They can then organise counselling etc for the bully to work through their issues.

@Kirwan weeelll....I feel they have attributed too much blame on my son for contributing to the issue for his retaliatory comments, and as TR Jnr said to me when I tell him he needs to ignore them, I can only put up with so much harassing, poking, prodding before I respond.

The other boys mother is on the BOT.

Things have stopped since the meeting between boys and Principal on Tuesday, so as I said to my wife, while it is frustrating they are blaming my son as well, if it solves the problem, then I don't really care.

Yeah, as long as it stops that's the main thing. Hopefully, her son being pulled up for bullying was embarassing enough for her to put a stop to it.

@Kirwan well knowing him from Primary school, kinda get the impression she gets herself on the BOT to be sure she is all over these things.

Yeah, know the type. Has he done this to any other kids? If you can identify a pattern, then it's harder for them to sweep it under the carpet. Maybe the next meeting with principal should with both sets of parents?

Annoys the crap out of me when they let bullying slide, it's their job to look after kids.

@Kirwan well he was picking on another couple of kids, but only as they are TR Jnrs mates sticking up for him...while he didn't have issues at Primary (that I was aware of) I know he does seem to have anger issues.

Problem was, there was another boy, trying to impress said bully, got in on the act, and holy moly some of the shit he said and did in front of the teacher...he is being moved to another class, apparently he has been bounced out of a few schools, but his mother says it is the schools fault.

Good thing is TR Jnr at least talks about it, hasn't bottled it up like some kids might...allowing us to deal with it before it became a bigger problem.

I think the term is 'white guilt' where we're supposed to apologise for shit that happened hundreds of years ago. Contrast that with me having a beer with a German bloke whose Grandad may or may not have shot at mine or vice versa in the war a mere 70 odd years ago.....

    Get over it people.

I've got 2 daughters ones at school into her 3rd year, my youngest starts in a few months
It worries me how worse girls are getting with bullying these days, especially as they reach teenage years.
If a boy started any shit I think the urge to head over there myself and pound the little prick into the ground would be hard to fight.
I'll certainly be teaching my girls to stand up for themselves, reporting it of course. All else fails a kick to the groin will drop any little shit.

yeah is a tough one...taught TR Jnr how to defend himself (and throw some punches) but how do you tell them it's ok to smack someone, without saying its ok to smack someone, because they will invariably have a different interpretation of whats ok!

My personal approach was they get 1 free hit, happened twice in my high school years, and in each, face had a bit of a bruise, but when against 3 or 4 dudes, I thought 1 hit was a decent result....😕
