Alternative needed from the absolute crap of stuff.co.nz
-
Stuff has been my go-to news website for years. It's a good looking website, easy to read, works well on mobile devices and for a long time was perfect for keeping up with the news of the day especially when trying to keep tabs on NZ from overseas.

However as anyone with half a brain (clearly not their target audience anymore) has noticed it has gone way downhill and is at best an annoyance and at worst some place you visit out of habit wasting your time leaving you feeling stupider and less hopeful for humanity's future.

Terrible one sided poorly researched journalisim, headlines about some idiots tinder date, glaring spelling and grammar errors in not only articles but also now headlines, headlines giving spoilers to TV shows not yet possible to see in NZ yet unless you're unemployed and even links to download virus and malware through their 'trusted' banner advertising. They've well and truly 'jumped the shark' and I haven't even talked about the scourge that is stuff nation or stuff comments.

Is this where all news is heading now?, is this actually what people want? Will we get to some tipping point where people collectively turn away from this trash or are we happy having out brains turn to mush?

Is there even anywhere to turn anymore?

So yeah in short..can anyone recommend a good, ideally New Zealand-centric, news website for me -

not sure of the news side, but this has some good rugby articles on it

Cheers TR, unfortunately today's headlines weren't a good start!

haha, I didn't even look at them, went straight to sports...oh well.

Yeah it's starting to come to that by the looks
-

Thespinoff has Gareth Morgan as a contributer..

Screw that.
-

I did say I wasn't sure of the news (which is subjective these days anyway) aspect.
-

No good if your a cat lover then. -
Your description if Stuff also sums up NZHerald.co.nz.

Sad and disappointing. -

I don't know of any good NZ news sites. As booboo says NZHerald is exactly the same as stuff but with different formatting. NZ journalism is at an all time low.

-

Everymorning when I come into work, I screen the below websites in the following order

NZ Herald

Stuff

BBC News

BBC Sport

Sydney Morning Herald

Far and away for me, the best site is the last one.
-

Nailed it.

I think it's actually worse than stuff.

I read an article from there recently that was mocking other so-called news websites for the amount of trash that they were peddling. There were four articles about the Bachelor on the front page alone!

In terms of sports the cricket stuff and the occasional article from Sumo Stevenson is worthwhile but otherwise it is still fairly bland.

This article this morning for instance:

http://thespinoff.co.nz/28-04-2016/an-englishman-confesses-your-rugby-is-better-than-ours/

What exactly is the point of it, apart from pissing in our pockets?
-

I actually don't mind bbc, there are normally a couple of good in depth articles and they don't have comments so the ferals don't get their chance to urinate on everything.

Haven't actually though about Sydney Morning Herald, might have to do for now
-

The biggest difference is you'll note that it has a much higher percentage of positive stories. NZ herald is just about all negative.
-

when you consider the tripe that NZH and Stuff serve up from Twattue and Treason, maybe it is the angle these media outlets are looking from...

I will open both pages and look over the headlines for one that catches my interest, but as others point out, mainly negative or social media rubbish...sadly there is far too much of that out there today
-

Classic Stuff headline today

Basketballer doesn't no own age.

I had to read ith thre time before getting what they meant and that they had rowally screwed it up

Looks like they have fixed it now, next time screen-shot that brilliance
