I haven't flown Qantas since I had a two hour stop over in Townsville when travelling down from Cairns. After about 30 minutes of waiting inside the transit area my mate and I decided to grab a coffee from the cafe in the check in/bag check area. As we were drinking our coffees we noticed one single bag going round and round on the baggage carousel. After about 15 minutes I realised it was mine. So I went over and picked it up and took it to the check in counter and explained that it was checked through to Brisbane.
Rather than being apologetic for leaving my bag to go round and round for 45 minutes the check in guy started getting stuck in to me saying I should have left it on the carousel. He called over his manager who then condescendingly told me they'll put my bag on the place this one time even though I should have left it on the carousel.
A complaint to the airline for this treatment received an email reply that said jack shit.
I haven't flown them since and let my employers know I'd rather fly with Virgin and they're generally happy to do that.

@nepia Aussies, no surprises there!
The annoying check in guy was an islander, even calling him bro didn't help me.

@dogmeat QANTAS are fine, Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd on the other hand. Plenty of bits strewn across the north of Australia.
I was always told that the acronym is "Queers And Nymphomaniacs Trained As Stewards".
Just like that I have no doubt offended a gender and a profession. It was so much easier when I was a kid (probably not allowed to say that word either, sorry).
I might have even introduced politics to this thread again.

Right, in synch with politics and planes ... Twyford loses a portfolio as he made a call when a plane was ready to take off.
offered resignation, not accepted, but portfolio shifted.
Tui ad anyone?

Twyford. No surprises there.
And in other quality NZ road building news...
-
@donsteppa that is a bloody shocker. There have been numerous instances of them messing up roads and bridges in the wider Kapiti area. Part of the land has a lot of peat in it, which sounded like a bitch to deal with. They reckon they got it right, but I bet they thought they'd laid the road right too!!
Saw that NZTA would be sharing costs along with the contractors involved. Hope that NZTA's contribution is minimal and limited to independent QA of the fix job! But have no doubt that is wishful thinking.

The civil aviation portfolio!
Comedy of comedy.
I hate that petty bullshit. There are LOTS of things he should be axed for .. that is not one of them IMO.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback when I read the headline I thought he'd made the phone call to offer his resignation from a plane, not that he'd offered his recognition because he made a call on a plane. He comes across as a bumbling idiot a lot of the time but that really is a non issue.

I completely agree. People go into rabid outrage when this kind of lame stuff happens, but shrug when incompetents like Twyford completely feck up their actual job. There's so much I loathe about this coalition government, but making phone calls on a plane or spending obscene amounts on limos aren't really a big deal.

Any cockies still here? Whatβs the go with this M Bovis cull?
Also, any time I come into NZ Iβm treated like Iβm carrying an extra heavy duty strain of ebola while also trying to smuggle in nerve toxin on my shoes. Just like everybody else. So how did this disease make its way past the bright sparks at MPI?

@JC one of the biggest issues is movement of stock, pretty much unchecked, even had some moved from an infected area up North.
THey could make it harder for it to spread just by better having movement restrictions and monitoring.

The public awareness level has been poor. When they had that fruit fly thing in Auckland a while back everyone knew not to take fruit in and out of the risk zone. Now it's going to cost everyone involved

Thought that you might have gone home by boat after comments above.
Good flight from our Strayan friends.
