Dilated?

@jegga said in NZ Politics:
She’s definitely going to get thing on the bottle before it starts teething if it takes after her in the chopper department.
Haven’t followed the saturation news coverage that closely , how many centimetres are they saying she’s dilated now?
She actually had a c section about 9 hours ago but doesn't want to upset the greens who want her to push

The sooner it is born, the sooner we can move to the next stage of baby bullshit, until hopefully we don't have to hear about the kid or fucking Gaylord again.
Despite what the Greens are wanking on about, this is not historic. She isn't the first politician or world leader to have a baby while in office. And out of all of them, she will have the most support.
I'm guessing Benazir Bhutto had a slightly tougher gig ...

The people don't care mate. They just want to know what the first daughter will be called

and in other news....oh wait apparently there isn't any, just about St. J's marmite on toast and staying in hospital.

The actual story here is that is was incredibly irresponsible of Jacinda to try for a baby at the same time as running for office. And even more so when you consider she did a deal with the most unpopular man in NZ meaning he would be acting PM while she was on maternity leave.
I'm always happy for people when they have kids, but her planning has been poor at best.

Who knows if it was planned? The irony is that, unlike coalitions before where the minor parties are swept to the background, these clowns are making Winston seem like the voice of reason. Strange times

@no-quarter yeah TBF, they may have been trying for months/years.

Quite possibly. So perhaps, by her own admission before taking she took the reigns at Labour, she should have waited for the next election.
-
@no-quarter can you imagine the fallout if she had announced she couldn't run for parliament cos she was gonna have a baby instead?
I think there would have been a perception of weakness that she couldn't do what any other women in NZ has to do in having a baby and holding down a job.
And TBH, I think it was a very smart decision, especially when you look at the coverage she is getting out of it (the cynic would say it was a very well thought out planned pregnancy...)

They will definitely get a lot of mileage out of this (not that she will encourage it, that's the way it is) and provide a distraction to all the stuff going on in the background. Opium for the masses

Oh for sure, and I'm sure if a feminist read my comments they'd be triggered as fuck.
But you can't really compare being PM to just any other job, it's meant to be a full-time commitment, and by full-time I mean you absolutely live the role 24/7. A comparable role in the Private sector would be CEO of a very large company - taking months off is not really an option.
But yes you are bang on, in today's world it has turned out to be a masterstroke with all the positive coverage they are getting despite the absolute shit-show of a government she is running.

this is going to open me for attack but
why not? Having kids is important. smart, successful people having kids is important. Why should we put in barriers that stop this?
I have battled to see why people give a shit about this. But, i have tried to look at it with someone elses eyes. A woman in a very high position having a kid and keeping her job is a massive deal to a lot of people who may have missed out on the same thing due to prevailing attitudes.
We in the west are addicted to work. And we have allowed work to take over our lives in larger and larger ways. And it gets worse and worse as we stay more and more connected.

Other people do it.
I agree that it's not ideal, but it's a fact of life.

That's a good take, I don't really have a retort to that. Having kids is infinitely more meaningful than any job you can do. Still think it could be planned a bit better, but fair enough.
