@Tim I don't see what his beef is with the Uni TBH. There has been a serious allegation, they have suspended him on full pay while it is investigated.
Good on him for standing up for what he sees as his rights but I don't think he can attack the process. He's also going on about the effect of it being known but he's the one who has publicised it.
Have to say it all sounds a bit creepy and tacky anyway. He hasn't denied the kisses, so it comes down to defining "inappropriate". That's a whole can of worms.
-
@dogmeat Making "inappropriate" a light, after work gesture is a serious issue now, especially for people in academia. I would hope that, if that's all there was, that he is protected by employment law, and it pushes back on this kind of woke action for a while.
Getting fired from an academic position is really serious, because the pool of employers is very small. It's not just something to shrug off and say "oh well, it was probably political".
-
@Tim I understand that - my best mate is in academia [and as woke as they come] but the Uni has to follow due process under NZ Law. If I received an allegation of inappropriate behaviour I would suspend but investigate as quickly as possible so as to minimise any fallout and make sure the finding was at least as widely circulated as the allegation.
Guy sounds like he has (bow to your yacht rock love) delusions of Kotterdom. Wants to be the cool lecturer. In this day and age at the very least the alleged actions display an incredible naivety and lack of self awareness.

An allegation made by a third party.
This may be of itnerest to some

@nzzp cheers for the share. I had seen that first quote previously, but must have misread it as I'd missed it was a denial from one of the friends who apparently had been kissed. That's pretty black/white in terms of at least one alleged kiss. The fact the complaint was made by an 'unrelated' third party is also interesting - I totally get people wanting to seek support etc, but if this person didn't even talk to the two women involved hasn't he impinged on their rights? Could that friend of Holderness have a go at that guy?

@jegga youmean Whinny pays for a lawyer, thought he'd just do it himself and charge his time back.
I’m sure he skims some off the top of the fees he charges the party . The odious turd has had the same lawyer for a long time , they both effectively run the party.
-
@Paekakboyz It's actually the accused saying that one of the women he allegedly kissed is a friend and is fine with his behaviour. Which she may or may not be. He may be projecting that she is cool about it whereas she is uncomfortable but he is an authority figure. No one knows which is why there has to be an investigation.
It potentially gets really messy from here and the Uni really are in a no win situation.

I thought this was always victim led, to avoid further traumatisation. At least, that's what Labour have told me

@canefan trouble is, each time he keeps dragging the woman back into the mess, she has to have a lawyer also.
There’s a go fund me to help her legal costs but not much you can do to help out the fact this stain is stopping her from moving on with her life.
I think this is the last thing he can do in court before he becomes a vexatious litigant.
So glad that Key refused to discuss going into coalition with him in 2014 and his votes were wasted. The thought of him in government is not pleasant.
