Maybe.
I was expected to fly when all of the buses, trains and taxis were shut down for typhoons in Hong Kong. So it wasn't safe to get to the airport by any means of transport, but it was O.K to get in an aeroplane...Things have improved slightly because the airlines realise that if people can't get to the airport they have no passengers, so it is a safety consideration, not a commercial one. Tui billboard.

Actually, the main cyclone prep is ensure you have a gas bottle, and lots of ice and beer. Stay dry.

Just texted my mate that I think we're going to be the guinea pig flight for Hamilton. Pilot: "Reckon it's windy up there? Suppose we'll find out once we steer this fucker over Otorohonga!"
As I said on Twitter, it could be worse - I could be on an overbooked United flight.

There’s no storm – It’s a beat up by meteorologists who wanted to be able to get to their baches without fighting through traffic.
At 8 this morning the Harbour Bridge was going to be closed and people needed to avoid the CBD. By noon EVERY ROAD OUT OF THE CITY WAS CLOGGED LIKE IT WAS A SCENE FROM A DISASTER MOVIE (JUST BEFORE THE TSUNAMI/METEOR/ALIEN SPACESHIP ARRIVES)
So I spend the morning cancelling courier runs apologising to clients and reorganising work for Tuesday.It’s so still you could hear a caterpillar fart

So we never left Wellington. Not because of the EXTREME winds around Waikato/Bay Of Plenty, but because of the misty fog around Wellington meaning no flights could land.
Super.
On the upside, just spent the last two hours at the Cambridge Hotel and won on the dogs.

Be honest. It's Hamilton - even South Africans have a problem with it and look what happened - you not only won on the dogs but you're not in Hamilton. What a great day.Hope all you guys down the east coast are doing O.K. We got nothing here for a change.

Hope all are well, reports online appear that it wasn't as bad as feared, but doesn't mean there won't be isolated pockets of damage...
definitely a non-event here, less than 10mm of rain, barely any wind.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback similar story for us in Wellington. We had rain overnight and a bit of wind, but nothing like Wahine level storm they were talking about. I'm all good with a safety first approach though, especially as the storm did cause some serious damage in other parts of the country.
