In 1995 Ellen Barkin looked like absolute shit (Bad Company). Sexless and very close to the repugnant Barbara Walters. Then she got hot. When and why?
Has anyone ever seen her and Haley Holt in the same room ?

White Boy Rick - Matthew McConaughey
Based on the true story of Rick Jr., who became an undercover informant for the FBI during 80s as a young teen and ended up being arrested for drug-trafficking and sentenced to life.
Decent enough movie, doesnt move rapidly; obviously you take these movies with a grain of salt as you dont know how factual they are and what angle the director is making it from.

Top Gun
Like Kelly McGillis this has not aged well. The dialogue is cheesy and the final scene on the carrier is gay as.

You mean the ones that cut from minimum sweep and maximum sweep in the same movement? Terrible continuity and the dialogue is dreadful.
I say this as someone that loved it when it came out. So if you did too, don't ruin your memory of it by ever watching it again.

I watched it recently with CF jnr. He loved it but then he is 8.... I am sure there is a fair amount of looking through the nostalgia lens for me. You are right on all counts regarding dialogue, the righteous brothers sketch was amateurish on rewatch, and there is a lot of homoeroticism going on, especially Kilmer prancing around like he had a carrot up his butt, and the volleyball scene

Black Mirror Bandersnatch on Netflix is some freaky shit!!
I'm not sure about 'interactive watching' unless it offers boobie baring options. This is just way too geeky...
A secret ending to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has been discovered, leading viewers to a playable version of one of the film’s games.
The interactive film, which was released on Netflix just after Christmas, has five official endings according to streaming service, although fans have discovered a whole host of different combinations and paths.
The Wrap now reports that there is a secret post-credits scene in which we see Stefan (Fionn Whitehead) back on the bus he took to visit Tuckersoft at the beginning of the film.
However, while previous versions offered the choice either to listen to a tape of the Thompson Twins or Now 2, the new scene sees Stefan pull out a tape of the Bandersnatch game he created.
The tape plays several high-pitched sounds before the scene ends. However, fans have figured out that the sounds actually represent data for a ZX Spectrum computer, the same kind Stefan builds the game on.When the audio is run through a ZX Spectrum emulator, it produces a QR code that links to a hidden page on the promotional Tuckersoft site created for the film.
The page includes covers for previously unseen Tuckersoft games that, like the games “Nohzdyve” and “Metl Hedd”, are all references to previous Black Mirror episodes.
A page for “Nohzdyve” includes a downloadable version of the game, although a ZX Spectrum emulator is required to play it.
The sequence to trigger the secret ending is as follows:
Sugar puffs,Thompson twins, Accept, Accept, Go back, Refuse, Yes, No, The Bermuda Triangle, Shout at Dad, Visit Dr. Haynes, Pull Earlobe, Take them, Follow Colin, Yes, Stefan, Go back, Colin, Flush them, Hit desk, Pick up book, PAC, Throw tea over computer, P.A.C.S., 20541, Who’s there?, Netflix, Try to explain, Tell him more, F**k yeah, Fight her, Kick him in the balls, Who’s there?, White Bear symbol, Back off, Kill dad, Bury body, Yes, He jumped, Chop or bury?, Chop up body, Destroy computer, Pick up photo, White Bear symbol, Chop up body, Destroy computer, Get rabbit from dad, PAX, White Bear symbol, Chop up body, Destroy computer, Get rabbit from dad, Toy, Yes -
@antipodean just watch shitty remakes and then moan how they ruin the original you haven't watched for 20 years...
Point Break is one of my all time faves, as is Highlander, but haven't watched either this century.
The remade Point Break shoulda just been called something else and it would have sucked .5 Bodhi moments less, I mean it ain't like the original Fast and Furious isn't just the same but with cars...

I watched this as I thought I’d like the interactive element. Turns out I kind of hated it, I didn’t realise how much it would take you out of the story.
It was like trying to watch a movie with someone tapping you on the shoulder every couple of minutes.
That said, I weaved through as many of the endings as I could. I liked the one going back in time as a kid the best and left it there.

Bah, cricket season is still on so I need to find stuff to occupy my time. So, here's my top 10 movies of 2018 - but they're only movies I've seen in the cinema (so a few arty films miss out and no place for any Netflix etc and more blockbustery types sneak in) as I have a handy list of them via my cinema chain.
So, in no particular order here goes:
A Quiet Place
Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse
Avengers Infinity War
They Shall Not Grow Old
Game Night
Blackkklansman
Deadpool 2
Ralph Wrecks the Internet
I,TonyaJust missed out (edit: I can't count and one of these should be 10th): A Star is Born (Lady Gaga can act and the dude from Alias can sing), Ready Player One (great adaption from the book), Bad Times at the El Royal (bonkers, but good bonkers), Incredibles 2 (only missed out due to better animated movies), Bohemian Rhapsody (good fun movie, who cares if not 100% true), Solo (another good fun movie that people were stupid not to see in the cinema if they didn't like TLJ).
Some other awards:
Wow, this is way better than I thought it would be (despite being batshit crazy): This could have been Spider-verse but Aquaman takes this out. Who knew Aquaman was half Kiwi and half Aussie? Basically for DC to succeed they have to make films with women and Polynesians .
This movie was shit and had an even shittier ending: JW1 was a great fun movie, JW2 was not and had the worst ending of a film in a while - I actually blurted out no don't do it, and they didn't, and then they did. I haven't been as angry at a film ending since The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Seriously, that one?: The Fish Fucker movie won the Oscar. WTF.
Really liked it when I saw it, but when I went away and thought about it changed my mind: Three Billboards. The Guard and In Bruges are the best McDonagh brother's films hands down.
It was good, but some peeps are going overboard about it: Mission Impossible. Decent fun action movie but hyped as something life changing. Plus, I still want them to do a straight down the line mission where they're not going against the govt or being double crossed. Just do one you fuckers.
I'm surprised I liked so many of these films: Animation. I'm not a huge fan of animation movies but they kicked (my personal) butt this year. At one stage I thought Incredibles 2 would be easily the best animated film of the year yet it's only the 3rd best.
It's made by a highly regarded director so must be good and weighty but really it isn't: Widows. Critics are praising this for being more than what it is - just a kind of average action thriller but because McQueen directed it it's been rated highly (I like his other films and didn't mind this).
Sequel exactly the same as the first yet the first is hailed as a masterpiece and the sequel isn't: I wasn't as taken by Sicario as some so the sequel seemed the same to me just without Emily Blunt. Same style, cinematography looked the same, same unrealistic bits - but called out as unrealistic this time round unlike with the original.

She's in Hollywood. No excuses.

I really shouldn't respond to such rancid bait but you deserve a flick in the nutsack. If the previous film in a franchise is shit, then it's a logical choice to avoid the next one. This is particularly the case if the previous two were considered disappointing. Hardly stupid to refuse to part with your hard-earned on that basis.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel If you didn't like the previous 'two' then fair enough.

I recall seeing an interview with her in the early 90s and was shocked to discover it was the Top Gun babe. Looked like a stereotypical lesbian who'd spent time in a concentration camp. I presume she just doesn't give a shit and I really quite respect that.
Btw Top Gun is still awesome and anyone who says otherwise can go gut themselves.
