@No-Quarter it'll take years to rid them of their toxic ideology too. Poor buggers
Such a retardation of simple concepts, and we were tracking pretty well as a society until about 10 years ago

Yeah, I think it must be a nervous reflex or something. Completely out of her depth.

Reminds me of Golly G lying about gun control in NZ , as is pointed out every time she does that nervous titter she is lying through her teeth.
Still hot though .

Wtf is this madness?
Last year at Waitangi, Jacinda Ardern pledged to address Māori inequality in prisons, asking media to "hold us to account".
Māori make up 15 percent of the New Zealand population, but in our prisons, 51 percent of the population is Māori.
"We're in the first year," says Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis. "You've got to give us a chance, we've started to reduce the prison population."
The Government has a target to reduce overall prison population, but nothing targeted at Māori - unless you count Mr Davis' remark that he wants a "zero Māori prison population".
Committing crime, as I currently understand in NZ, is actually already illegal...so if Maori are still doing it despite the law well what other options do they have to reduce Maori population in prison? Maybe increasing jail time for non-Maori or will they look toward a system where only pakeha have to do time for crimes because they all apparently have 'privilege and power' kinda like how only white people can be racist.
How is this reality? How on earth can kiwis be pissed about Trump when we have this level of dangerous retard running our country.

I think you are reading this wrong. When a country is 15% of one ethnicity and it's prisons are 51% of the same ethnicity, I think thats a perfectly valid thing for the government to look to try to rectify.
I didn't see anything in the comments to suggest they are going to use methods which will endanger the general population though, like shorter prison terms by race etc.

You have a point but these people’s track record in the short time they have been in government is awful . They have shown time and time again they are soft on crime and only care about victims of crime when they can use them to get maximum exposure to an international audience.
Your expectations for the outcomes from this government should be very very low. They had a conference about crime last year that went over budget and didn’t achieve anything . This article sums the conference and labour’s attitude to crime up nicely. -

Isn’t that implied though? Little is on the record as wanting shorter prison sentences. That may endanger the general population. And if he doesn’t target the shorter terms by race and the sentences drop proportionately across the board you will still have the representational imbalance between ethnic groups that you do now.
A better analysis might be to look at how many of the prisoners are gang members or affiliates. I’m betting it’s quite a few. And they aren’t social clubs, they’re criminal organisations whose members commit crimes, get caught and go to prison. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that there is a correlation.

Can’t disagree more. The fact it’s commented on that it takes more time than a year supports my thoughts. It suggests to me they are looking st the reasons why, and how to rectify that. I’m no Labour fan at all, but this seems like a worthwhile exercise.

The percentage of Maori in prison is around the same as the percentage in the defence force , this from 1:40 in has an explanation of of why that might be the case

@MajorRage I don't know the details of what they're doing here, but the left of recent times has had a bad habit of trying to fix symptoms instead of problems. E.G. they see racial inequality (a symptom) and try and enforce a quota system to correct it, when what they should be doing is defining the problem statement as accurately as possible and then addressing the actual problem. However doing that can often lead to some pretty tough conversations, and it is far easier (and in their eyes popular) to blame discrimination and one of the 'isms', which then justifies their idiotic policies.
You'll forgive me if I have no faith that this government, lead by the fluffiest of fluffy PMs, will be willing to dig into the real reasons as to why Maori are over represented in Prison systems. They've got a narrative of oppressor/oppressed to keep up after all.

It’ll be the fault of neoliberalism , increased wealth inequality and by extension national and nine years of neglect from them .
I just saved the country millions .

am sure old Brain Tamaki has a solution!
God that man is a twat!
When asked if he was interested in getting into politics: Why would I come down from my high station to be a politician?
Cnut!
For me, there still seems to be so much of a victim mentality with some Maori who are held back by centuries of oppression, they'd rather sit there and blame everyone else for where they are in life rather than try to change where they are.
