Ex Machina - dumb garbage. Don't waste your time.

Watched it and thought it was quite good. I thought it was much better than Her - which drawing a longish bow it's kind of similar to. I think it helped that I really had no idea what it was about going in aside from a pic of Ava.

And boys yes there was nudity (from two pretty attractive chicks too).

Also, the three stars of that movie are in everything these days. Domnhall Gleason, Oscar Issac and Alicia Vikander (less so, but I didn't know she existed 2 weeks ago and now I've seen 2 movies with her in them).
-

Had a bit of Google Credit, so we decided to have a family movie night with Into the Woods - the screen adaptation of the stage musical, apparently (personally have never seen it on stage).

Now I've seen a few of these musicals brought to film, but jeez this one would have to be the singingest fucking version of any of them (though I haven't seen Les Mis which is apparently all singing).

The production values were great, and I though the weaving together of several fairy tales was reasonably clever, but at two hours it dragged on a little further than was enjoyable.

EDIT: Depp's Big Bad Wolf character was paedo-creepy. Like M4L levels of creepy.
-

Finally got around to watching Kingsman last night. Gets a rating of ‘Bloody Good’. It is rare to get one of those movies where even though you can tell what is about to happen in nearly every scene it still manages to entertain you. It’s a story done plenty of times before with a different premise but this one works.

Yeah I liked this, am guessing Samuel. L had spent some time with Tyson before hand....

Run all night - Ed Harris, Liam Neesan, Joel Kinnamen and Vincent D'Onofrio. Neeson is a mob hard man who has grown up with, and works for Ed Harris. Neeson ends up on the wrong side of Harris and is now on the run to save his son. Pretty good, Neeson is not the unbeatble tough guy he is in Taken, but is still pretty good in this role as a drop-kick father trying to make amends to his son.
-

Kinnamen was the revelation to me in that movie, I'd only seen him in Robocop and found him to be about as entertaining as a blank wall - but he was good in this.

I love Kingsmen, probably my favourite movie so far this year.
-

Really? First 90 minutes, I thought it was great. But the last 30 minutes I thought it completely went to shit. I'd give the first 90 minutes a solid 8/10, and the last 30 minutes a 4/10, for an overall 6.10 score.

San Andreas - good special effects, typical US sort of storyline to a disaster movie (complete with symbolic American flag unfurling at the end once the disaster is completed). But still worth a look.

The female lead should win an award for emerging cleavage of the year. Quite outstanding.
-

I am both heartened and disheartened by your post. Disheartened in that you dared to say something negative of my favourite movie of the year, yet heartened to hear that if I watch San Andreas there will be something worthwhile in it other than the Rock.
-

Totally agree jegga and thanks for posting the trailer the other day.

Great to see how the game is played in rural NZ. Bit of a laugh seeing the things they still get up.
