Hansen knows this Irish team very well now.

Last year in Dublin New Zealand were at the end of a hard season and had a tough game against the English.

They will be fresh and well prep'd. I can see them sucking the Irish in the centre of the park, forcing them to commit players to the ruck, then hitting them out wide. I hope I'm wrong, obviously, but I can see a pretty big scoreline for the AB's.

You may be new to the Fern but you've obviously played this underdog game before, and I won't let this continue. Ireland are odds on favourites, theirs to lose. Would be very surprised if the ABs got up.

    Err

    New Zealand 1/5 on
    Ireland 5/1

    Just sayin like...

pfffft, sounds like another Paddy Power promotion to merk people.

Yes - Paddy Power and 16 other firms on Oddschecker. 😉

    so it's a conspiracy then...

Nah - the fix is in. WR have put Barnes in charge. The hex ref.

If WR were actually a competent organisation the fix would involve one of the two Frenchies as ref, one as an AR and then probably Barnes as the other AR.

They've left too many variables on the table with just Barnes as the ref ... the ABs actually win the odd game with him in charge.

I know - Ireland have a worse record with him. He’s as popular as Ewan McKenna organizing a sing-song in the Lansdowne bar.

Although, in our head to heads under him it's 1-1 (and our win was the thrashing in the Naki that he had little chance to influence) so despite the fact the deck is fully stacked, still advantage to Ireland.

Is there a source for Barnes being the referee?

He has a 6-10 record the ABs since Cardiff. Not particularly interested in his fare.

@rotated What does your 6-10 mean? We've lost 6 times with him reffing?

It's a terrible state of affairs when the ref selection is more anxiously awaited than the team selection for a world cup knockout game.

But that's where we're at due to the actions of the custodians of the game

As @Chris-B asks what does 6-10 mean?

TBH I'd prefer him to the Frenchies. Less likely to do something crazy, though he does have a habit of pulling a howler out of the bag after being very good.

    Six losses to ten wins.

    Losses:
    France @ Cardiff 2007
    Australia @ Brisbane 2011
    South Africa @ Joburg 2014
    Australia @ Sydney 2015
    Australia @ Brisbane 2017
    Ireland @ Dublin 2018

    Wins
    Scotland @ Edinburgh 2008
    Ireland @ New Plymouth 2010
    France @ Auckland 2014
    Wales @ Cardiff 2014
    Argentina @ London 2015
    Wales @ Auckland 2016
    France @ Paris 2016
    Australia @ Sydney 2017
    Wales @ Cardiff 2017
    Australia @ Auckland 2018

In about three quarters of those wins the ABs trailed at half time or led by less than a penalty. Outside of McCaw or Carter not being on the team sheet I doubt there has been a bigger game changer on the AB winning record post 2007.

Weather forecast looks shit. Is this a negative for us? The game slowing down will benefit the Irish but we are a pretty decent wet weather team as well.

Might want to look at the stats of Nigel Owens instead - he's the ref.

    We avoid Barnes and Garces.

No complaints with Nigel Owens officiating of the All Blacks to date.

No need - he is a good ref.

We also get Graham Hughes as TMO - he's excellent IMO. As good as Skeen is bad.

Wasn't Owens in charge against SA in SA when they bypassed protocol on a try decision when it screened at the ground?

    That was Clancy.

Owens had the Wellington test last year and one of the tests with Donald at 10 in 2009. Maybe one more Bledisloe loss in there somewhere?

Clancy, the Irishman with the French name? Figures

Nigel is a good appointment for us as far as I’m concerned,

He is one that tends to allow the game to flow more than most imo , I couldn’t be happier with that bit of news

    That would be ClancÄ›.

Can't get much more Irish than Clancy, except maybe O'Clancy.

Alain Rolland is the Irish ref with a French name.
