Coronavirus - Overall

MY Kiwisaver lost $10k in the last 10 days or so, but I also know had had some huge gains in December, where I am still well ahead at present.
Ride it out...still well away from my retirement.

Ok now its serious
You have to think they would be super spreaders with all of the people they have contact with daily, I hate to see just how many people they trace to these two. How long have they been in Australia? Did they for sure contract it from someone in Australia? You have to wonder if they got it from a crew member on that film that may have come from overseas. Guess its irrelevant as they now would have continued the spread. Bet that movie is going to cost a little extra than anticipated.

I'm barely looking. It's paper losses that don't mean anything to me as long as I don't sell low.

Thanks Don - just wiped $30K off my portfolio since yesterday.
Not worried about the virus but brainless politicians will be the death of me.
Seriously didn't think even he could be that stupid.
Trump derangement syndrome.

Worth taking a couple hours and giving this a listen. Infectious disease expert on Rogan.
BUMP
It's exhausting trying to get a handle on this thing. In 2 hours this guy, Michael Osterholm, displayed genuine knowledge and trustworthy credentials.
I'd never listen to a government or commercial spokesperson for an hour so this guy seems pretty authentic.
A decent starting point at least

Yep. If you keep investing regularly it all evens out as you buy cheaply when the markets goes down.

Have a go at this deadbeat being real funny - bork, bork, bork - mocking the steps being taken by people way more intelligent than him, who bother to protect him and the other NBA players, and deliberately pawing every media microphone in sight.
This was just two days before he tested positive for the coronavirus and now the entire NBA season has been shut down until further notice.

McLaren pulls out of this weekend's race. I get the feeling we're not going to see a lot of sport over the next few months.

I give it two weeks tops.

The word I have is that things are worsening in Oz, what are you hearing? I just cancelled a class reunion I was organizing in Sydney for May, too much bad juju right now and no end in sight

Every State and Territory now has confirmed cases. We've left our border open for too long, so numbers are only going to climb as people infect others, feel sick and then wander off to the hospital.

Interesting discussion with one of the UK government advisers on TV last night.
Their view is that it could be more dangerous to cancel events in the open air as people will then migrate to clubs, bars etc and spread the virus even more - particularly in winter. It's a fine judgement call apparently and very dependent on the weather.
Personally, I'm going to order a case of '02 Barossa Shiraz & one of Chateau Musar '01 and wait this thing out...

In NZ the whole self quarantine thing seems to be going well so far once the initial panic died down. Patients at our clinic are being told not to enter the building if they have covid 19 symptoms, to call and warn ahead so they can be isolated appropriately. The risk of infecting the staff and therefore forcing closure of facilities is real. A GP down the road had to close up and is in the middle of a 14 day quarantine because he came into contact with NZ case #2. And 40 nurses from North Shore hospital in Auckland were forced to self quarantine for a similar reason. So far we have held stable on 6 cases for 4 days. But doctors in our clinic are bracing themselves for the worst.

So, you're anticipating this to be a short term thing?
